Perhaps the new Chinese jets may be the way forward?

A good point. I’m sure that the guys that matter in Tehran have an eye on the Chinese craft. The An140 is already being made under licence in Iran. There is apparently a plan by the Iranians to manufacture the An148 at home, but wether this and plans to manufacture Tu204s and Kamov helicopters will come to fruition, we’ll have to wait and see

A great shame, especially as most of the 154 accidents seem to come down to bad maintenance or poor airmanship. As far as I can remember, countries such as Iran, Syria and others cannot purchase airliners with that have more than 5%? U.S components, I’m not sure of the percentage figure, perhaps someone here does. Syrian Air is in talks with the Russians with a view to acquiring new Tupolev and Ilyushin airliners.

An friend of my mothers still runs a gorgeous Citroen DS23 on a daily basis, IMO they are most beautiful car ever made. Apparently a mechanics nightmare but she has never had any major problems with it. I used to run an LHD Wartburg Knight until 1994 when the spares started getting a little scarce. Up to that point I used to use it everyday to and from work, she never let me down once, even in the depths of winter. The bolt on body panels were a real boon, but being a 2 stroke engine, the exhaust smoke had to be seen to be believed. Sold it to a Trabant enthusiast in the Leeds area. I personally think that running a classic on a daily basis seems a good idea, as others have said, providing its reliable and cheap to fix.

That’s the year I was born! For me personally this really is one of the most enjoyable photo threads I’ve ever seen here, please keep ’em coming! 🙂

I totally agree. Lovely shot of the JAT 727 Neil, and what looks like the tail of an Inex Adria DC9. I flew on one of their DC9s whilst it was on lease to SAS, I think that it was a Srs.50. I’m trying to locate a few pics that I took at STN of a potentially fatal incident involving a Balkan Tu 134A back in the 80s. Stay tuned.

No dispatcher will tell the commander how much fuel he needs – period. The one saving grace about a dispatcher is that “generally” they’ll know how to do a manual load sheet, which has saved our arses a few times 😀

Thats certainly how I remember it.

Is that based on their fleet at the time?

I travelled with them a lot in connection with my job in the 80s and early 90s. The aircraft were comfortable and clean, the catering fine, punctuality usually good, and the cabin crews always seemed to be cheerful. Can’t ask for more than that;)

Vary evocative images Peter, particularly the Sterling DC6. I had a lot to do with their Caravelles back in the 80s. Do you have any images of props flown by a Danish airline called Flying Enterprise? it later became a/s Conair.

A very nice shot of the airliner called “Little Tu” in Russia. Interflug also operated the type and sold it on to Iraq. The Chinese Air Force also operated at least one. Thanx Peter.:)

A lovely trio! I once saw that LAM Il62 at Schonefeld on one of my many visits to see my beloved Interflug 62s coming and going.
