But that does make you an anorak.:D
Oh ‘eck noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo;)
In the name of balance, it would be even more interesting if the same access was available to EVERY nation’s confidential dealings. But then of course it wouldn’t be so much fun for the anti-US brigade.
Agreed. Devils advocate time now. It could be argued that the countries who seem most outraged by this event are the very same ones that hold themselves up to be paragons of freedom and openness. Not all countries claim to be so. The ironic thing here is that the regimes concerned appear to have fallen foul of the very same technology that they have used against others. Just an observation.

But I am biased towards any Russian hardware so. 😀
Me too:D
I understand so. Apparently her name is Carol Hersee, now in her 50s and working in the costume dept. at the BBC. She holds the official world record for the face most seen on TV. Her father, who was a senior engineer at the BBC, designed the pattern. Rumour has it that she still possesses the toy! Please believe me I’m not an ‘anorak, but once I started searching on this I couldn’t stop!;)

Gonna be interesting…
A masterpiece of understatement but I take your point. It WILL be interesting to see just what the leviathans of corruption, hypocrisy and self interest have been up to, supposedly in the interests of us all.

That guy was an absolute craftsman at what he did. The world will be a poorer place without him. RIP mate, you earned it:(:(:(

Slightly off topic but does anyone local to EMA, or not come to that, know if Airtrans are still in the terminal there? Thanks for any info.
Looks like senior people at Spicejet have rightly taken this matter very seriously Steve, the mind boggles. Hope this doesn’t give you know who any ideas in Dublin:D
Levsha, Thanks for that info regarding the Indian Air Forces spotless safety record with the 76. Regarding the AWACS platform, I understand that the Chinese airforce also operates these but I’m not an expert by any means on these matters. Come to think of it I could be straying into the Military forum here, so I’ll leave it at that;)
Don’t you know that all pilots are gallant, self-sacrificing, heroes?
I never cease to be amazed at the need of the public to sanctify airplane drivers.
Am I right in taking those comments as a dollop of sarcasm? I do hope so. The pilot who carried out the Hudson River landing seems worthy of sainthood to me at any rate.
27vet…right on the button!
Levsha…I’m sure you would agree that there are a great many more IL76s in service than there are MD11s, with the vast majority of the 76s operating in sometimes hostile conditions living to ‘fight’ another day. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the 76. The accidents involving them are usually the result of pilot error, sub standard maintenance, poor loading/bad load planning, operations in bad weather sometimes during vital relief/aid missions. Very rarely has an IL76 been lost as a failure of the aircraft itself.
civilspotter….Thanks for that info.
Those ‘members’ on that other site obviously do not appreciate the finer points of airliner history;) Great shots and more anytime please. BTW I used to work the Worldway DC8s thru STN back in the 80s before it changed to the Tristar, and for one summer we worked the DC8-62s of Hawaiian Air every week, that used to draw great numbers of spotters!
