With the privilege of free speech comes responsibility. Something the practitioners of it should bear in mind.

Really? Fortunately for the rule of law there a lot of “keyboard” heroes otherwise you would be no different to the thieves.

‘Fortunately’ as you say there is the ‘rule of law’.

That’ll be the same rule of law that gives a hit and run driver 5yrs, ‘stern’ warnings to young thugs who terrify old people in their homes night after night, not to mention the ars***es who rob the poor sods during the day and go on and on taking or simply breaking what isn’t theirs, and last but by no means least, that poor sod out in the Fens who was put inside for daring to protect what was his. I’ll leave the so called penalties for cold blooded murder for another day. At the end of the day I guess we’re just talking charity boxes, so we’ll all just move on, forget about it and let rule of law take its course…..as I’m sure it will:(

These are my own views and I feel no need to justify nor defend them to anyone. I assure all present that I have a very good and very personal reason for having them.

None taken, but it shows that nobody can expect a free ride. I grew up in the worst council estate in my home town of 20,000, but knew that I had to improve my situation by doing my best at high school, getting a good job, and then attending college education later in life to gain promotion.
Everything I now enjoy in life is from my own hard work and effort, and while my own parents were too poor to be able to send me to university, I did everything I could to smooth the path for my two children, which has been rewarded by them both gaining 1st Class Honours, and good jobs in this hostile climate.

Hats off to you Al and I genuinely mean that. Its a great pity that a substantial number of people don’t do the same. I had until very recently enjoyed a 24 year career in civil aviation and despite my poor acedemic record, through a combination of hard work, very long hours and enthusiasm managed to make it to a very senior post. Many thousands of others I guess have achieved the same in their chosen fields. Unfortunately following a stroke that left me with a substantial loss of vision, I lost my driving licence for the and hence my job. I had no free ride, like you I came from a not too good council estate and a bad home situation, as have many. If I had ever had children then I would have done all I could to get them the best education and university if they had wanted to go, but I would certainly not expected a free ride nor expect others to subsidise them and I’d have made sure that my kids did not expect it either.

Someone has to clean the bogs…

So long as its not you presumably…no offence intended;) In the current economic circumstances, many institutions other than universities are going to be hit hard following the failure of the unfettered free market in the UK and many other countries. I tend to agree with Al that encouragement for people to study certain subjects that are actually useful to the country’s economic progress is vital. It may very well have been acceptable in the past to take courses such as ‘ the economic impact of the Shrew on the tourist industry of Silesia’ or ‘The evolution of Staphylococcus racing on the Byzantine Empire’ but those days are gone, or bl**dy well should be. I fear that the protests against the fees will be the first of many such protests about many things as the true effects of todays situation are felt by very many people, some of whom are much less fortunate than some students. Sadly neither the Universities nor the students within them can expect to be immune from the present day mess.

I stand ready to be corrected but am I right in thinking that the A380 was indeed an explosion whereas the 787 incident was smoke in the cabin? So unless an ‘unknown power’ is attempting to destabilise the AI and Boeing empires for its own nefarious ends, my money’s on coincidence. Interesting thought though;)

Yup! The sedative is working fine and if I’m good tomorrow, Nurse says I can go and see the flowers in the garden:)

These images are great. In another life I used to take weather folders out to the Ford G1 pilots at Stansted on behalf of the handling agent that employed me at that time.
