Good news for Airbus and great to see how far Vietnam Airlines has come……now if they could just do something about that livery!!!:D
Particularly as their UK Management Team are dropping like flys. At least before there was some attempt to manage the business side of things, now there doesn’t seem to be anyone managing the business or the operation. 🙁
I agree to an extent Mark. It grieves me to find myself on common ground with Ryanairs O’Leary, but I think he is spot on with his views of the BAA.:(
Very sad event for those involved. Pre investigation its difficult to comment.:(
It seems to me that with LHR-east being converted into a pax terminal in the (far?) future there is not much space left for hangars. Surely BA, BD and VS can´t be happy having only limited space at best? I am not convinced it is in the best interest of BAA to put this level of operational difficulties on its 3 main customers.
Unfortunately the operational difficulties encountered by its customers has never been one of the BAAs main concerns…I should know I was one for 20 or so years. The BAAs main concern is profitability come what may, no harm in that so long as your pursuit of it does not strangle one of your main sources such as the airlines that use your facilities. Alarmingly BAAs new owners seem to present no immediate prospect of a change of course and that ought to be a cause for concern for airlines and passengers alike. It seems more important these days to provide retail outlets in the terminals to the detriment of the day to day efficiency of terminal operation and God forbid, passenger convenience.
Great shame to see that demolition Trident Man…still just think of the retail potential…Drive thru ASDA, another branch of Caviar House etc etc Apologies for the rant and wandering off topic, but this subject really grinds my gears:mad:
We’ll miss you Lois!…………..it was fun:(

Breathtaking and reckless! That scenario could have ended very differently. An irresponsible use of Portuguese state assets if nothing else. I love a spirited display as much as the next man, especially with an airliner, but from the angle of the shots here it looks like a lucky escape with that turn. I’m with AFTS on this one.
Very nice pics indeed! Really rate that Jordanian A310! I often hear that AZAL flight calling up LHR on its way in over the North Sea, nice to see what it looks like…….more anytime please:)
Cracking pics! Thanx for sharing them. The VC10 is attractive to be sure………almost as much as the IL62!…but not quite;)
Thanks Neil, Great pics, I was lucky enough to have started my aviation career as a Traffic Officer in 1980 and therefore had to ‘loadsheet’ such beauties as the Caravelle, TRIDENT!, TU134, 154, IL18, 62M, Viscounts, Vangaurds, F27, 28, DC8s etc. Is a 777 as exciting as a DC8-63 at ‘full bore’? in my opinion nowhere near, but I guess its subjective! Neil, more anytime please and thanx:)
I remember them well at Stansted back in the 90s. The BAA jumping through hoops for them, the havoc created for the long established airlines and handling agents with the gate/stand allocation for them (even upsetting the mighty EL AL at certain times) Despite all the fanfares, bells and whistles however within a few months they were gone and so were the jobs of a lot of great people. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad to see them back, lets hope that circumstances and the market have changed enough for them to stay a little longer this time.:)
Based on reports elsewhere, sounds like the Tinkers have changed their interests and are now looking at Air Berlin rather than Aer Lingus!
Personally I think that Ryanair are a cancer that is dangerously infesting the airline industry, and I’d be only too pleased to see the Eejit blocked on this potential new takeover too.
Andy
Beautifully put Andy!
Firstly I’m biased against so called low cost carriers anyway so no surprise that I would not like to see this happen. That aside would this ‘merger’ be in the best interest of the Irish consumer? Would it not simply lead to an ‘Irish Aeroflot’ monopolistic operation? The very same thing that MOL used to rail against at news conferences and paint on his jets. Aer Lingus has a well deserved and sound reputation around the globe…..if I were Irish I’d want to keep it that way, I’m with the EU on this one.
Great images, thanks for sharing them. Favourite livery on a Trident for me is still the “Red Square” with Channel a close second ( the square would have looked great on a T3) I was told many years ago by an ex HS employee that there was a huge model of a Trident 2 in Olympic livery at the plant…hope someone kept it safe. Neil, have just visited the ZK website-brilliant. Reminds me very much of the 10yrs or so I spent involved with the restoration at Duxford of Britannia G-AOVT. Very well done with the Trident…almost as pretty as a Tu154:)
Stunning pics! Love the Olympic and the Egyptair. Recently did LHR-CAI-LXR-LHR with Egyptair on the 777, nice crews and good food:)
