Geez, I thought I was bad hankering after the past like this! I agree with the sentiment though. I used to like the old BEA and BOAC, especially the Comet 4Bs and Super VC10s. Bring back Court Line!!! Steve, It would have been nice to have seen an Ansett 747 at LHR! Talking of 747s that BOAC livery on those was pure class.
Hans, according to the latest info that I have the Syrian Tu-134s are confined mainly to other Middle Eastern routes and certain parts of Eastern Europe. They also operate a number of “Govt” flights as well. As Tu134s go these airframes are not that old, and when I saw one at the old Athens airport just before it closed, it looked in very good and clean condition. I don’t think that they have amassed anywhere near the hours that most Tu-134s have done.
“Long live Sterling Cityjets!!
I spot whilst at work, although I don’t collect numbers. Photography is my main interest, but that is largely banned airside 🙁 , so it’s just the occasional airshow or trip to a more freindly airport now.
I haven’t gone digital yet either. Here is a scan of one of my old STN prints, sorry about the quality, not up to your standard.
Wow I’ve not seen a pic of that CL44 for many years. By the look of that we were working at STN at the same time. I’m sure that at Servisair we handled the crew arrival for that a/c on behalf of ATEL. If you have any more pics from “old” Stansted it would be great to see them.
The Sunday service is now operated by an A330, instead of the normal A320 on weekdays and Saturday. Arrives around 12:20pm, departs again around 2pm. Has been operating the Sunday flight for about 5 months now.
Here’s a shot I got of it about a month ago, with my old camera (excuse quality) Am still waiting to catch it with my new camera! 😀
Thanks alot for that..again a nice pic
Brilliant pics, thanks for sharing. Did you see the Cyprus Airways A330 at the weekend? Do you know if this was the first visit for it at STN?
The following statement is made without prejudice and is not intended to imply any favouritism toward or dislike of any particular aircraft manufacturer:
Great news indeed for AI! I saw one the Cyprus Airways A330s at STN last weekend-very impressive. Does anyone know if this was the first time at STN?, usually I think its an A310 or A320 operating this route.
I agree, IMO the Caravelle was one of the great airliner design classics, they looked great from any angle and were a delight to fly in.
Understood, thanks. Just hoped that I had found someone else who had flown on the IL62…..don’t seem to be many around that have…c’est la vie!
Please tell us more Steve about your IL62 flight. Having made several on them myself it would be interesting to hear someone elses observations.
At the end of the day airlines will use the airline that provides the best economics for their type of operations, even if it looks like a bulldog chewing on a wasp.
Many of the paying passengers can’t even tell how many engines the aircraft they’re flying on has, let alone having an opinion about its looks. Aside from the most die-hard of aviation enthusiasts, I doubt if anyone ever boycotted an airline or aircraft because of its looks. So for as long as the plane does its job the airline is not going to be much concerned…
If we got a say on the type of a/c airlines should fly, I guess we’d demand anything from DC-3s to Tri-stars to Concorde. That’d be nice… 🙂
But yes, sadly nowadays airports stock endless numbers of 737s and A320s in all their variants with little else to look at as far as narrowbodies are concerned.
Excellent response!
‘ Ere we go again………………………………
Trust me Sandy…The one thing that bores me sh#*+ess about this forum is the endless bickering about the AI vs Boeing thing. Considering the endless posts I’ve put up pointing out what I believe to be the overwhelming need for BOTH these companies to be a fundemental part of our industry. I don’t take kindly to being accused of starting another irksome AI versus Boeing thread. I have worked with products produced by both of these companies and I base my observations on those experiences. I was merely pointing out that BOTH these two enterprises can be as bad as the other. But I’m not so inept as to be blinded by a mesmorising loyalty to one trade mark or another at the expense of objectivity. If some are, then thats something for them to ponder on.
Thank you.
Quoted by Bmused55- and thus making all that crap Leahy spoke about the A330 being superior to the 7E7 just that… crap
Which dovetails nicely with all the “crap” spouted by Boeings PR empire ref the A380……….In other words, all as guilty as one another! But I thought that the A335 was always in the grand AI developement plan anyhow.
