Will it be OUR last stand?
I think to be realistic, any chance for a ‘last stand’ has long gone. And I think that, that is true of many different countries, not just our own. I’ll run the risk of being accused of being a racist here, but IMO, no politician had the wherewithal to stand up, and make sure that immigration did not reach the stage, whereby the numbers began to ‘skew’ the demographic make up of the country.
As I alluded to in my previous post, through this country’s adoption of many internationally binding treaties, and other ‘bits of paper’ with regard to immigration, and asylum seekers, there is very little that can be done now, without finding ourselves in contravention of a lot of them. This could result in us having to face sanctions imposed upon us by other nations as a result. It could be argued, that until the appearance of a politician, who is willing to tear up those bits of paper, and live with the international consequences of so doing, absolutely nothing will change. But then again, the last time that a certain European ‘politician’ from the 20th century did that, the fallout was catastrophic for the entire world. It’s an absolute rats nest alright, and that’s leaving aside the effects of globalisation, and the migration of population groups that, that generates, but I think that topic deserves a thread all its own.
IMO, irrespective of whoever is responsible, the damage has already been done. It’s no good shouting ‘Close the Gates’ now. UK Governments of different political persuasions, have all presided over increased immigration, when it suits their agendas, economic or otherwise, and yes, that includes my ‘beloved’ Labour Party’ I’m afraid its now a case of put up, or shut up, or risk being labelled as something very negative and undesirable.
Yours Sincerely,
A lifelong (but now thoroughly disillusioned) Socialist.

Better than ‘Beckham International’ 😉
It’s good to see the sanctions are working though 🙂
Yes, thats all very well, but remember, the crews and other staff who work in these airlines for their living, are not responsible for the politics of the Iranian regime. I’m quite sure that like me, you’re not deriving any satisfaction from the plight of these crews and their passengers, flying on these dated, and due to the sanctions, potentially dangerous aircraft every day. Sanctions are fine when correctly targeted. Sadly, there’s always the innocent that get caught up in them, and personally, I would put civilian aircrew and their passengers firmly in that category.
Some great pics. Two of my favourites in one post, the Bangladesh 777, and the Malaysian 380. That AZAL looks almost retro.
Nice pics chaps:) thanks for posting them.
Of interest? Definately, great pics. I love the Malaysian A380, and the Arik 340.
More pics like these anytime:) Thanks for posting them.
Look forward to seeing your Interflug pics. The BAADE 152 does indeed resemble an Anderson creation:)
Sounds like a great way to start and finish a holiday.:)
Happy memories I guess and to complete the story
it should have been called Classic Airways….
It’s a thought that you could not repeat the journey with those types of aircraft today. As you say, Classic Airways 🙂
Very nice images, especially the Gulfstream.
