Yep will do Andrew……I’m picking the model up this evening, I have to say it is a stunner!
Thank Ye Kindly! and theplane was close.
Thanks Andrew and Lyndon. I think that sometimes these models must be comissioned by the aircraft manufacturers themselves with a view to a possible sale. I have a Boeing 757-200 in JAT colours, I don’t think that they ever ordered them, and an A340-600 in the old red and white Virgin colours, although in the end of course VS did get the -600 but in the now current scheme, so perhaps this F28 is another “what might have been” model.
Looks like Mount Fuji?
You lucky person!!!! She certainly is a lovely design and I do like the new Cyprus colours. Back in the early 80s I flew to LCA from LHR on a Cyprus Airways B720B-I think! Would that be correct?
Welcome to this forum mate…….I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Well done mate…nice pics.
Mongu…Its interesting that you should bring automobiles into this argument. The other week a friend of mine tried trading in a Ford Focus with a local franchised dealer….The dealer did’nt want to know! As the friend in question negotiated the price right down barely 2 yrs ago the dealership was totally disinterested as basically according to them there was “precious little in it for us”. Now I presume that the dealer is practicing an authorised policy of the motor co. involved?. Anyway I digress, I hardly think that the fact that Airbus inherited the Concorde support programme is “irrelevant”, Who else was going to do it, especially as at the time the support was set up, both Aerospatiale BAe and the two carriers involved were state owned, this is quite central to the case, both carriers covered by the support have voiced total satisfaction with it and have both instructed the support provider that it is no longer required. Now I agree that VS should be covered by the same contract should they actually operate the Concorde, but as far as we know has any official move been made in that direction? As far as RR are concerned ref the Olympus support, I’m sure that once Concorde is grounded, that support programme will be as unecessary as the Airbus one and for the same reason. I still await an answer to my previous question ref: Airbus providing support for a soon to be non-operational (as things stand at present) airliner, with great interest. I’m sorry if some find this irrational, but we are having an objective debate……..are’nt we??
Mongu….Question for you, If the operation of Concorde is discontinued at the behest of the only two operators involved, and the same two operators consign all airframes to either scrap heaps or museums then what is there for Airbus Industrie to support?. As far as I am aware Airbus inherited its support function vis-a-vis Concorde through its connection with Aerospatiale and to a lesser extent BAe, therefore Concorde is not a direct member of the Airbus family, rather it is an adopted “tar baby”. In the words of the BA chairman recently “The support provided for Concorde by Airbus Industrie has been first class”. This support is being terminated at the request of the only two operators-not Airbus! And why would they alienate Virgin?. As far as the SIA debarcle is concerned, it should not be forgotten that SIA got an extremely good deal ref the A340, and I suspect that there is a lot more to the SIA/777 scenario than meets the eye. I think that to imply that Airbus Industrie has a political agenda is at best misguided and at worst disingenuous. From Airbus’ perspective how does the “tie up” with Boeing/EL-AL and others look..nothing political there? And as far as Noel Forgeard is concerned.. with his track record that man can sell me a fleet of his planes anytime he likes.
I think that the biggest give away on the F100 and F70/F28 is the “crescent” wing leading edge design, very graceful.
I did like Boeings “Sonic Cruiser”.
Great news Ant! As a great fan of the Comet 4B its good to hear of any survivors. I spent 8yrs working in the preservation of the Monarch Bristol Britannia 300 Srs at Duxford. Airliner preservation is a vital part of our aviation history and is often underrated by some museums.
During a live interview yesterday on C4 with Richard Branson and Marshall of BA it was alleged that between them AF and BA had instructed Airbus Industrie to end support for the Concorde programme at the time of termination of flying by BA. Sorry Mongu but this has nothing to do with “arrogance” on behalf of Airbus Industrie! According to Branson, Airbus is being pressured into complying with the operating customers requests to terminate support for a type that as far as THEY are concerned will no longer be flying. If true then this is shameful behaviour by BA and AF. I personally want to see Virgin fly these things and lets hope that in the end they do. Ritualistic Airbus bashing is only clouding this sad issue and as a very successful part of the aviation industry Airbus always makes an easy target. The culprits here are BA and AF so lets all save our venom for them!
But overall the DC10s safety record compared to the numbers in service and duration of the types operation is no where near the industrys worst. Personally I would’nt hesitate to fly on DC10 and have done many times. I never felt unsafe on one. Please correct me if I am wrong, but more people have probably perished on Boeing 747s over the years than on DC10s
Would be good to see the MoD select the A330 option, thus showing some support for UK aerospace companies/Airbus participants. ie: the wing constructors (Bae Systems) the engine builders (RR) and others.
