Nice pic! Does’nt it seem strange to see the DC9 style front end without the distinctive “eyebrow” windows?

Wys – I have sympathy for what you say. Certainly my own experience seems to conform to your point of view. In the space of 3 months we lost approx 63yrs of combined Ops. experience and no one at management level appeared to give a damm. The only visible reaction was an offensive glee at the savings on salaries… now this pleased who, shareholders?, accountants? who was to blame? I don’t know to this day. The results were as I have detailed in previous posts. All in all a crying shame.

Thanks for the information mongu-seriously mate. I am not an accountant and I appreciate the information you’ve just sent. I can only tell anyone about what happened to us from the point of view of a senior ranking member of Ops.staff. For me customer service was and is paramount, I enjoy my work now because there are the resources and comittment within my present company to provide it……possibly as a result of good accounting,I don’t know! It just seemed to me that in the closing months of our company the customer service, staff motivation and comittment went the same way as the figures-There must have been a link. Thanks anyway.

Could have been worse! At least they have kept the Cyrillic script.

Yes wys-And it was a combination of accountants and clowns that ruined and finally destroyed my last aviation employer. Figures became the governing factor, staff moral became dirty words along with customer service. Bad investment decisions or lack of investment altogether caused serious equipment problems and bad training. This led to client airlines deserting us in droves. The ultimate insult was the obtaining of new company cars for the few when on some days we could not even muster a GPU to turn round an aircraft. Company propaganda droned on about increased investment well, we were a major outstation but we never saw any! And I shall never forget being in charge of a night shift in Ops. with only 6 ground operatives to do a full turnround of a 747F in 2hrs and one traffic officer for the freighter as well as two IT charters operating simultaneously, one of which was a 757. The reaction from my manager when phoned at home to pass on the complaints from the airlines concerned? “Shortage of staff?-not much we can do about that”! We were constantly told “Theres no more money” so who was telling us the truth? I dont know to this day and thankfully now settled in a different career it no longer affects me. But at the time the above was not an islolated situation and it all coincided with the onset of the LoCo period, coincidence? maybe, so you’l forgive me mongu if I think that your glib statement “No tears shed here” could maybe only come from an accountants office-no offence.

Yeah…I know that I am well out of step here, but I don’t apologise for that. The bulk of my aviation career was in the time of big and healthy full service and flag carriers. Sure the flights were more expensive but in the main the planes were fairly full and from a passengers point of view the service and welfare backup was there and it all worked. The people and cargo all got to where they wanted to go, or in the case of the pax fairly close to where they wanted to go, providing the airline operated to the airport of your choice. The cabins had a full and proper clean between flights by trained staff and, in the main, decent food was served included in the price of your ticket. Whether we shall see those heady days again is hard to predict, the looming war making it even harder. Some great names and liveries are now gone forever, and while it may be good for people to be able to fly from Newquay to Lower Toussous Intl or wherever for £2.50 every weekend, lets take some time to remember the employees out there who have paid the price for those “lovely cheap fares” by either losing their jobs or sufferering a dramatic drop in their standard of living and working conditions. This LoCo lark is very much a double edged sword!

I really feel for the Buzz staff…….What options! the dole or become part of the airline worlds lowest common denominator-and thats only if they keep you on!

Yes I know this will set of all you “market forces” fans off on one, but I think its high time that Govts. be allowed to step and assist the flag carriers and restore some common sense and stability to this industry. The demise of airlines such as KLM does no one any favours……………..over to the LoCo fanatics! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Don’t feel too down man-here in the UK we’ve been one of the stars for years. Unfortunately.
