Thanks for posting. Good photos but ugly ugly aeroplane
I have to say that I tend to agree with you. But as someone has said elsewhere on this forum, its aerodynamics rather than aesthetics that is the main priority. IMO, apart from that nose, the rest looks pretty unremarkable.
But thanks for these interesting shots, It’ll probably be the closest I’ll ever get to one!
Do any of you lovely photographers have a pic of an Air Ecosse 330 or 360 by any chance? They gave me my first job in aviation back in 1981. Due to several moves, I have lost a good many photos. We used to operate both EMB110s and SD360s in the Royal Mail livery. In fact, one of our EMB110s was the first aircraft painted in the Royal Mail colours, it also carried ‘Datapost’ titles, which was their then new, high priority mail service.
Some very nice shots Keith. Sorry, I don’t like that BA, it looks as though its suffered a golden bird strike;)
A few years ago, I took one of the pleasure flights on board a Rapide based at Duxford. It was a beautiful aircraft inside and out. The interior featured leather seats and even these little cords adjacent to each seat to help you to lower yourself into your seat with a little dignity! One of my fellow passengers described the Rapide as a ‘Gentlemans Aerial Carriage’ a very apt description I think;)
Honestly…in my opinion, the 787 is about as ugly as a jet of that type could be.
Each to their own of course but it its up there with the Comet and Caravelle in the stakes for the ugliest jet
Yep, each to his own. I’ve always thought that the Caravelle is an aeronautical design icon. The Comet maybe a little less so.
Yes but talking of real Pigs ……..
SARO flying boat mentality ( Or Titanic )
Titanic?.
Plastic maybe , but you have to admit its a better looking airliner than anything Airbus has put in the air .
No, not at all. I’ve always believed in the old maxim that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. IMO, looks wise there is nothing remarkable about the 787, and no way can you describe that awful nose profile as beautiful.
Sorry, I just realised that you put that ‘mystery’ Caravelle info in your image notes. I must phone my optician;)
Oh would you look at that! I think those excellent shots illustrate just why the ‘Gulfs” are my all time favourite biz jets.:)
Well those images bring back some memories of when I was a traffic officer at Stansted. I ramped many of them belonging to Air UK, JEA, and Titan. All of these carriers operated both the 330 and 360 at Stansted, with both Air UK and Titan basing aircraft there.
Lovely shots. Whose is that Caravelle without titles?
Thanks for that information. Then I think that they should take your idea seriously. I guess Stansted could do with something similar, but with an endless flow of virtually unpunctuated Ryanair and Easyjet movements, I think I would give it a miss.
Although Birmingham is not my local/nearest airport, that idea of yours looks fantastic. Bearing the above in mind, dont they already have some kind of viewing area, with some of the amenities? Maybe I’ve got it wrong or it’s now closed, but I seem to remember hearing that the Ian Alan book co, had a store there, that was bought out by the same guy that runs the enthusiasts shop at EMA.
I’m really looking forward to seeing those Caravelle pic. I used to work with the type during the early to mid 80s. The owners were Sterling, Transwede, Transeuropa, and Air Provence. Some of the Sterling machines were of the Super 12 version, as were the ones belonging to Air Provence. All beautiful aircraft. The Caravelle in your pic was originally a Sterling machine.
Paul ,I guess the Argies lay claim to anyplace that has oil.
