Nice shots Peter. Is that the nose of the Surinam DC8 in the background of the first pic? I quite often see their A340 ‘contrailing’ over my house, en route home I assume.
As a novice traffic officer, the first load control qualification that I got was for Braathens Boeing 737, later this also covered their 767s as well. Nice crews I seem to remember.
Part quote from Lardy Git: ‘As we reach the end of our lives we can look forward to rotting away unwashed, unfed and uncared for in a disintegrating hospital’
That’s been the fate of many old people, kids or no kids. I should know, it happened to my Nan, but perhaps that’s for another websites forum
Some very nice shots, especially that Gulfstream.
Some nice pics there, I’ve always liked the Germania livery. I can remember the Fordair fleet when it was based at STN, BAC 1-11s and Gulfstream 1s. Makes more economic sense these days I guess, to outsource the aircraft and crews.
I once flew on that Caravelle EC-BRX, flying from Stansted to Palma in the mid 70s, when it was in service with Transeuropa.
Apart from ‘accidents’ with contraception, I would have to say that in the main, deciding to have children, is usually based on a decision freely made by two individuals, so I guess that it could be labelled a lifestyle choice, much in the same way that those who decide not to have children have also made a lifestyle choice of their own.
Ooops indeed! I should think it’ll be a logistical nightmare to sort that out.
More interesting shots Hugh. It looks as though the two An24s in your second pic were some of the Egyptair aircraft. I would assume that the Comet was also.
We try to go on holiday to fun exciting places that don’t attract whining old types that go through life tutting at others. 🙂
And I trust that you enjoy doing that, and that you do so for many holidays to come. From where I’m sitting, it seems that the intolerance goes both ways, and I think that there will always be the lack of common ground between those on either side of the debate. My partner and I choose to holiday in an environment without children. We do this because we enjoy it, and it has the added bonus that we dont spend our precious holiday time getting stressed by some of what goes on in those ‘fun exciting places’ In the eyes of some, this might be regarded as intolerance. I prefer to regard it as ‘doing your own thing’ as everyone should have the right to do, so long as does not impinge too much on the rights of others. I worked in civil aviation for 25 years, which gave me the privilege of travelling to some very nice places, yes even some fun and exciting ones:) On very many occasions, the flights had their fair number of ‘discontented’ children, for years I accepted that as an integral part of the journey, also as I was usually travelling for around 10% of the full fare, or sometimes for free, I felt that I really had no cause for complaint. We have some brilliant memories of some of those trips, but on the whole we don’t miss them, so now we just ‘do our own thing’ and that’s just as much fun:)
Fine.
But that doesn’t mean I have to listen to the little ones for a couple of hours in a confined space.
Especially after I’ve paid good money to sit there? The parents/kids would be asked to leave a theater, what’s the difference?
Quite so. My beloved and I recently enjoyed a mini break at a child free country hotel. The company we booked with, specialises in the provision of holidays for those of us not keen on kids. We don’t hate them, and would never dream of hurting one, so we go somewhere where we don’t have to see or hear one. If that’s classed as intolerance, then I’m guilty as charged, and I make no apology for it.
I seem to rember once seeing an Arran 72 with a very nice livery, featuring circular designs, or am I thinking of a totally different airline.
Thanks for posting those shots. A very sad sight to see a carrier with such a long and varied history, just fade away:(
Some very nice shots. A nice early ‘feather in the cap’ for SEN with Aer Lingus basing an ATR there.
Very unusual shots. Being as the country was still firmly in the grips of that lunatic Ceausescu, you were indeed a brave man! BTW, where were you off too on a Tarom 707? if you don’t mind me asking. I did fly on a Tarom Tu154, some years ago. The crew didn’t smile much, but I guess they had very little to smile about.
