Thanks longshot, that cafe you describe, sounds like the right place. Just a thought ref that ‘distant Douglas’, were SAS still using DC6s or DC7s into LHR at that time, possibly on cargo duties? It could be one of theirs maybe.
Gulfstreams? Got pics of quite a few of those.
Oooh, anytime you please would be good:)
Nice pic. Must have had a lot of ‘verifiers’ that day. 😉
Aw wow Sarah! Wonderful shot. 1965 was a ‘busy year’ for my family, with two ‘encounters’ that year with BEA. First, we had a family holiday, I was 7yrs old at the time, and ‘plane mad’ even at that age, we flew to Malta on a BEA Comet 4B, and prior to the flight, we had a coffee or something in the cafe that overlooked the apron, I think the cafe was in Terminal 2. Later that year, I accompanied my parents to LHR, when they were sending a show horse to new owners in the Channels Isles. It was flown on a BEA Argosy from LHR to JER. Please bare in mind my young age, but I seem to remember that it was an evening departure. Thanks for posting that image.
I bet that was a rare bird, even in those days.
Some stunning shots there. I wonder if the Vietnam colour is one of those that appears to change hue, according to the ambient light at the time that you see it, just a theory.
Nice shots. Sad to see those DC8s languishing like that. The march of time I guess. 🙁
Very interesting stuff, thanks for sharing those.:)
Very nice pics. Especially that Il62M. I wonder for how much longer even Rossia will operate the Il62M.
Very nice, not often you see such a colourful Antonov!
Very nice indeed! Some great shots. Nice to see Olympic still about, albeit a shadow of its former self. First coffee of the day, and some nice airliner pics, doesn’t get much better than that.:) Ditto for your other 3 posts.
Some very nice images there cs. I always think that the livery worn by the Rossia aircraft, still seems to whisper, ‘cold war’. Must be why I like it. Love those Tu134s. I hear that Russian Pres. Medvedev, wants to ground all Tu134s, following the recent accident in Russia.
Ah, Gulfstreams……..big and beautiful:):):) Thanks for posting.
I always thought that the airliner collection at Duxford needed a 737-200 series. Preferrably a Britannia one in the first set of colours in Trident Man’s post.
When I was working at Duxford on the restoration of the Monarch Britannia during the late 70s, it was rumoured that the same carrier had offered a Boeing 720B, but this was turned down, because, unlike the military collection, it was only British made airliners that would be considered. I think I’m right in this, but if there are any members/ex members of the DAS here with us, perhaps they could confirm wether or not this was actually the case.
Vee One, ref the Maersk, yes, perhaps white wings would have been nice, although IMO, I don’t think you could improve much on that lovely livery.
Personally, I think your idea of Kai Tak 1, 2 etc would be favourite, but I’m happy to look at any airliner ‘oldies’, however presented:)
