    Sheesh Tom.. I would’nt say that shot “got it” hehe:dev2: just a shame about that crappy fence!! anyone drive a cherry picker???:eek: 😀 😀

    It’s better than I got which is nothing, it also proves to those who wondered why I never got a shot why I couldn’t.

    That damn fence ;).

    Never noticed the green Volvo, but, remember seeing a couple of young lads right at the fence to the bin area by the gate?? possibly you two??. I was mostly hibernating in my wee white van parked at the back beside the staff car park, only venturing out to shoot now and again.

    I was at the petrol station indeed! the green Volvo S40 driver :D. I was standing sort of in front of those bins with a friend of mine…..there were a hell of alot of people in that small area.

    Reckon you saw me? and ta for the comments by the way :D.

    Don’t reckon I can beat you on the busy driving day either ;).

    Sure you didn’t see G-BPEK rather than G-BPEE??? ‘EJ and ‘EK are meant to be the first two for Open Skies and are having winglets fitted.

    Very very possible Andy, it looked like ‘E’ but I was driving past at 25/30mph and turning my head to try and get a better look so by all mean’s I may well be wrong…:D

    I’m thinking this it it? honestly I wouldn’t know what the reg would be from that angle, nothing in the way of letters/numbers to ID it. Unless you have to put it under infrared lights to see it or something 😀 :diablo:.

    Have a ball mate, it sounds like a once in a life-time thing but knowing how much travelling you do anyway I’m sure this isn’t going to be the last time your doing a round the world tour :D.

    What’s that behind the XL 737 ? Is it a 146 departing or something ?

    I haven’t been to LGW for ages. What’s ot like at that spot at 08 … as
    in is it easy to avoid getting bits of fence in your shots ? I seem to remember
    a DC10 being around 50-60mm side on from there. These were at times when
    we were lucky to be able to shoot through the hole for the lock on the gate
    as there were no other photographers there.

    Well the shots of the NW/XL/EK were taken from the gate and it was no problem at all and the lens sounds about right, admittedly I can see it being sort of a scrum in the summer like you say with loads of other spotters but that’s really unavoidable.

    As for the car park at the pub. Is it possible to reach the pub without a car ?
    Is there any public transport goes bye the place where the pub is ?

    Cheers again guys and to answer your question Si no I’m not :).

    No problem regarding photography/spotting there but there is no parking allowed on the side of the road – you will get moved on sooner or later. There is a large car layby opposite a pub (always forget its name) to put the car in, then walk about 5 minutes back to the spotting place.

    Well you say that Tom but we were parked in this lay-by near a field entrance the other side of the approach lights to where the crash gate is for the best part of 4/5 hours not including times to go get something to eat etc and had no problems from anyone all day despite police driving by at least twice…

    Must of been lucky this time :D.

    Lovely pics–especially the Olympic A340 and NWA–you must have been there when they changed the runway ends to 08R as the OA was one of the last ones to go off 26L!!
    Were you at the crash gate in the Lowfield Heath Rd?

    Spot on Charley B, I’m not entirely sure of the road name but from your description that sounds exactly like the place we were at. We preety much got there as the last 2 departures left 26L one of which as you say was the Olympic A340 which climbed dissapointingly quickly! we were hoping it would just clear the roof of the car :diablo:.

    I think the question is would this of even come to media light had the incident with G-YMMM at Heathrow ever happened? or would it of been kept within AA/Boeing and whoever and sorted out accordingly?
