    Battle armour

Hi XN923 , i have the cockpit section of a battle , in this area there is no provision for any armour , the seat which i have two of has no provision for any armour plate , and also there is no provision for any bullitproof glass in the windscreen , the only metal behind the pilots head is the overturn truss frame .
I have had a look but the manual also does not make any comment on armour plate fitted anywhere in the airframe.

    Battle turrets

Hi Steve , some battles were fitted with turrets for training , but not for combat purposes , the bombaimers/radio op cockpits were flaired over and the turret fitted where the rear gunners cockpit was , they were used for gunnery training only.

    Battle

Hi Guys , good news , this would be Vince Oconnors battle parts which consisted of pair of wings , wing centre section , cockpit frame and any other smaller parts , would be alot of work but worth the effort.
As for stripping out guns/armour etc as the battle did not have any armour plate fitted/or self sealing fuel tanks and was ony fitted with one foward firing 303 browning and one lewis gun for rear defense there would not be much weight to be gained by not fitting her out with wartime equipment.

Will be happy to help in any way.

Hi TT , did this data plate come from an engine mount/cockpit frame is there any AID inspectors stamps on it . The data plate should have an assembly name eg engine mount / cockpit etc , the date should be stamped along with AID inspection stamps.
One of the engine mounts that i have has the following ,

    FM 31119
    PA 32284
    Date 1 2 39

Assuming that the ‘FM’ number is a contract number , i have not being able to find any paperwork to link contract munber to RAF serial , i was of the opinion that the date was when it was inspected by the AID inspector.

The ‘PA’ number is i feel the part/assembly number as the battle had PA PD and PC part prefix

The main constructors data plate , which would carry the RAF serial was located on the wing centre section in the rear cockpit.

Hope this helps , happy to share any other info you may need.

    Battle part numbers

    Thanks Dave

Where was your Battle built? Sometimes part numbers can vary depending on manufacturer…

My Battle project combines parts from fairey and austin built examples.

    Part Numbers (Battle)

Hi Elliot , as far as i can see all Battle part numbers begin with PD , PA or PC letter prefix , all the cockpit/enginemount tubing parts carry PD letter prefix other cockpit parts carry the PC , PA prefix for example , PD3359/5/BR693 is a tube end fitting used to attach cockpit frame to the fuselage , PC3012 X182 is a casting part of a bell crank for the controls.

    Hope that helps

    cheers dave
