Rafa Spall good call, for resemblance.
Not sure whether this has been asked before, But which Actor would your choice be for Guy Gibson. Barnes Wallis ? not an easy task.in my view.
I would like to second all of the above, you would certainly need to allow yourself at least 3 to 4 hours at the Battle of Britain Museum Hawkinge, i normally try to visit 5 to 6 times per season as there is so much to take in.(Also Very Helpful and knowledgeable Volunteers)
I would also like to add Shoreham Museum in Kent, a well presented Museum for the aviation enthusiast.
Also the Wings Museum Balcombe West Sussex again with the above very pleasant volunteers at hand.
One other i have visited recently and that is RAF Uxbridge,an underground operations room,it includes a Museum, and a short film explaining its Operational use during the air Battles of WW2. there is no need to book a tour as you can now just turn up on the Day,(Saturdays and Sundays) with no admission charge, just a donation to help with the upkeep of maintaining a great part of our heritage.
Mind you i know how Sgt Maciejowski must have felt, as i have often been to that town called lost, most of the time i head out of Kent.(apart from Shoreham airport of course) )
Thanks again, if you do happen to come across any more info on his stay in Halisham. please let me know.
Cheers.
Thanks for your reply, sorry about the West Sussex bit, i was meant to put East. (Thank God for Sat Navs)
The reason for my post being that i had purchased a Tobacco pouch from one of the stalls at your Aerojumbe.apparently the stall holder stated it was from his Grandfather who was an A.R.P. warden in the rural district of Halisham, (Seemed the Genuine type) he received the pouch from a Polish airman maybe as a souvenir, (how and why no body knows.) the stallholder had listed the possible crash sites that he had researched thus far.
I know that with all these things that you take a gamble on what you buy, but at the end of it you like to think you have a genuine buy.
Im one of those that you cant just throw something like this away, as it could be the genuine article, (who knows) so i will research this as best i can to maybe salvage its possible history.and keep in safe hands.
I did noticed on the list that you kindly posted, the Polish pilots name Sgt Maciejowski, who you had down as his Hurricane crashing on the 30/10/40 at Blackford Farm.would you know anything else on this crash. i.e.was the Hurricane a write off? had the pilot landed this aircraft and lost control? had Sgt Maciejowski baled out? and any other info you may have.
One other thing i hadn’t mentioned is inside the Tobacco pouch was a small envelope containing a few fragments of tobacco. also inclosed was a piece of parachute around 6inches by 4.(of irvine type) the outer edges singed.
You never know the A.R.P. warden may of borrowed the pouch for a smoke and forgot to return it(ill keep dreaming)
I guess if anyone could help on this post help it would be you.as this is on your patch.
Many thanks for any help (if any) and anyone else.
Brad.
Cheers for confirming Rocketeer.
Would anyone know if this part number would fit any other type of aircraft, or are the Typhoon and Tempest the only two.
The Top Right photo, (green coloured chute) is what i believe to be a WW2 Raf Pathfinder Target indicator flare Parachute with container.
Thanks Anon,
Would you have any ideas why painted Oxide red? (probably to preserve)
One other thing to add there is a large stamp between the to exhaust outlets (290) could this possibly be Me 290?
So Definitely a Jumo 213 like above quotes could be from a Ju88 later variant,188, 388, Long nosed Fw190, He 111, Ta152a, Etc.
Now for the task of trying to possibly source which type of Aircraft my relic could of come from.
Not sure whether the exhaust stubb type could throw some light, as i know the Merlin type engines had different Exhaust stubs I.E the hurricane/Spitfire, had a different Stub to the say Lancaster.
Going by the Jumo 213 Relic i have the part of the Stub that mounts to the engine block has 4 mounting points (Studs) but also has an additional 2 added above and below, also the shape of stub that was damaged in the crash is of a rectangular shape, whilst researching the Fw 190 the shape appears to be of a circular design,
Could this possibly help to I.D. Aircraft.
(As always any Help very much appreciated.)
Stepwilk I take it a 3 valve head was only fitted to the Jumo 213 engine, does that mean majority of the Luftwaffe engines had more or less than 3 valves?
Many thanks for the above replies, so definitely not Stuka?
Spot on Andy,2 out of 2. im impressed
Good call CharlieHunt I for one would love to see the Lancaster in its full Glory doing a flyover Reculver, not sure of the last appearance it made there as i have a nice photo of its last appearance flying above the Castle. Would anyone have any idea when this may of been?
I have to admit i love the Halifax as it is, in its relic condition paintwork etc, as every time i see it i get a real feeling of this great aircraft( sends shivers down my Spine)
It would of been a real shame to of restored it, as straight away you would of lost its originality,IE the paintwork would be lost etc.
But that’s just my opinion.
