Sunday 30 August
An unexpected visitor on Sunday afternoon was Sally B, which diverted in to us due to bad weather at Duxford. It was nice to be able to get up close to this lovely aircraft. One of the Team gave the crew a lift back to Duxford on his way home, so everything worked out well in the end.

Saturday 29 August
The Airfield has had a hard couple of weeks, and it was entirely appropriate that the Gnats were out today to perform a special memorial flypast at CarFest South to honour Gnat pilot Kevin Whyman and those that lost their lives in the tragic incident at Shoreham last Saturday. They taxied out for a timed take off at 13:40.

Frday 21 August
The Hangar 11 Collection’s P-40 Kittyhawk, Lulu Belle, was out on an air test following the rectification of a coolant leak.

After a quick refuel it went off to Shoreham where it is taking prt in the airshow over the weekend.

They cancelled all their displays until the end of August. Two ship displays will resume in September. Kevin’s funeral was on Thursday.
Sunday 16 August Vampires
The classic jets were out displaying at Eastbourne again. I only managed to catch the Vampires, which are returning to Norway on Monday or Tuesday.

Saturday 15 August Vampires
The two Norwegian Vampires also went off to display at Eastbourne.

Saturday 15 August MiG 15UTI
The MiG 15UTI was displaying at Eastbourne.

Saturday 15 August
A busy day for jet movements. The Singapore Strikemaster was out on a local sortie and then did some circuits.

Although not strictly historic, we have a Cassutt Racer, G-CSUT, being prepared to race at Reno in September. It’s slippery little ship!

Monday 3 August
Sorry, I was working in the Tower when the Jodel arrived, and didn’t get to take any pictures of the GA park.
It was rather poignant today to see Chris Heames ferry back G-RORI from Hawarden.

Kenneth Aarkvisla flew in the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron’s MiG 15UTI this afternoon from Newcastle – a wonderful sight and sound in the circuit!

Sunday 2 August – Nostalgair
The Jet Provost G-PROV was out for a local flight and some circuits as well.

The Hunter T7 displayed at Shuttleworth.

The Spanhoe Alcyon and Fokker S11 were also on static display.

The Dragon Rapide based at Old Warden also dropped in for the show and gave us a nice topside pass on departure – thanks Brian!

Sunday 2 August – Nostalgair
The Shipping & Airlines Collection brought in several of their aircraft from Biggin Hill, including the Civilian Coupé and Curtiss Wright Travelair.

They also brought in their Dragonfly, Miles Messenger and :L4 Cub.

Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August – Nostalgair
We had a busy flying day GA-wise on Saturday, but for those of us working in the Tower the breaking news of the tragic Gnat incident made things very difficult for us. The Ops Team sends it condolences to Kevin Whyman’s wife and daughter and the other members of the Gnat Display Team.

But life goes on, and The Squadron held its second Nostalgair event on Sunday. Leopard Moths arrived from Henlow and departed later for Old Warden.

These were followed by a Hornet Moth…

Then the Boeing Stearman based at Napp’s Field arrived…

Tuesday 28 July
The second Norwegian Vampire arrived late on Tuesday after being held up at Newcastle by igniter problems.

Monday 27 July
Various aircraft returned from weekend air shows after being held up by the rain on Sunday.
First in was Chris Götke in the Kennet Seafire. This came from RAF Coningsby, where it had stopped over.

He later went back to Yeovilton in the Kennet T6 Texan.

Next arrival was the Hunter T7 Fox 1 in from Shannon.

At the end of the day the Norwegian Historical Squadron’s single seat Vampire arrived from Newcastle dodging the showers.

Contact Alan or Lee at The Squadron – 01992 524510. The event is this Sunday, 2 August. We are expecting some classic de Haviiland aircraft including Hornet Moths and a Dragon Rapide. The Norwegian Vampires will also be on static display with their Mig 15, which is due in before the weekend.
