The Kennet Scout came back from Old Warden.

The Gnats were out displaying at RAF Marham’s Family Day. (G-RORI went to RAF Odiham as well).



La Patrouille Reva flew in from Colmar in France for a Display Authorisation check display with Brendan O’Brien. The Rutan EZ aircraft made an unusual sight for an aerobatic display. They later departed for Newcastle where they will be based for the Sunderland Airshow.








Wednesday 22 July
On Wednesday, Mark Rijkse flew his Yak 11 in from Wycombe Air Park at Booker for a Display Authorisation routine with John Beattie.








It was moved over to be near the 101st Airborne re-enactors. Sadly the other DC-4 is now being dismantled. Engines have already gone off on the back of a lorry.
Sunday 12 July Salute to the Few Community Day
The BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane displayed next, coming in after a short shower has passed over the Airfield.




The finale was provided by two of our Gnats.

The second act was our UH-1 Huey, flown by Mark Fitzgerald, which put on an impressive display.




Chris Heames displayed the Hunter T7 Fox 1.




Sunday 12 July Salute to the Few Community Day
Our Community Day this year commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and once again incorporated a small air display.

The Hangar 11 Spitfire departed during the morning for a display.


The display began with a unique Yak 50 (Phil Ansell) and Augusta 109 (Gene Willson) pair. They each also performed solo routines.






The Kennet Seafire also returned from a show at Westlands, Yeovil.

Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July
At midday the BBMF returned, giving us three passes as a six-ship before breaking into vics to land. They later departed to overnight at White Waltham. It had been a wonderful day made particularly poignant by the fact that Douglas Bader hea led the very first Battle of Britain flypast from RAF North Weald in September 1945.





On Saturday the lead section flew over us on their way to another display.




Buckingham Palace flypast
At 11:23 the BBMF departed for their flypast over Buckingham Palace to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.






The Norwegian Vampires departed too, giving us a low pass s well. (The pics were shot from inside the Tower, so not best quality!)



Later the DC-3 returned in formation with MH434, which performed a short display before landing.



They were joined by two Augusta 109s in Breitling livery, which too the press back to Battersea Heliport at the end of the event, the DC-3 departing for Duxford.



Norwegians arrive
The BBMF parked up and refuelled.




Shortly afterwards they were joined by the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron’s Vampires, which flew in from Stavanger for a fuel stop on their way to Yeovilton.



The Hangar 11 Collection Spitfire PRXI departed for a display as well.

The centrepiece of the event were four Spitfires and two Hurricanes of the BBMF, which arrived around 10:00.








AB910 had served operationally at North Weald during the war.
Thursday 9 July and Friday 10 July
On the afternoon of Thursday 9 July the Breitling DC-3 HB-IRJ flew in from Switzerland.




It was part of the launch of a new Battle of Britain watch by Breitling. The event was being held at The Squadron on Friday 10 July. At 08:30 the DC-3 departed for RAF Northolt to pick up members of the national press attending the launch event.



North Weald Airfield’s Community Day – Salute to the Few is on Sunday 12 July. The BBMF Hurricane and Spitfire will be displaying along with other aircraft. There is a major RAFA input, including a march past of 75 colours from RAFA, London Wing ATC and the RBL. The RAF Regiment and 56 Squadron are also sending contingents. There will be three bands taking part too – the RAF Waddington Voluntary Band, London Wing ATC Band and the Epping Forest Pipe Band. To end the event there will be a sunset ceremony. Entry is £5, with monies raised going to the RAFA Battle of Britain Wings Appeal.
The Beech 18 is G-BKGM. The Alcyon is indeed G-MSAL, owned by the Isbister brothers. They also have a Fokker S11 and the Beagle Airedale G-ARNP.
John flew it back from Old Warden, Chris then took it out for his first solo.
