“Limited options.” I know the feeling. In my case I chose the biggest field then noticed power lines along the end that I couldn’t get over or under! Glad you are back home. If the RV can’t be repaired, you can always build another on.
Martin. Great pics. By coincidence we had an old gent turn up at North Weald today along with his daughter and grandson, who wanted to have a look at our Hurricane Gate Guardian. I offered them a tour around the Tower as well. It was his 70th birthday, and he was over the moon. Upstairs in the VCR he mentioned that his father had flown air sea rescue missions in Walruses and Warwicks in the Mediterranean. I didn’t get to see this thread until after he had gone, otherwise I would have pointed him to it.
Hampden, I think you are referring to Dick Melton. I have seen the Walrus fuselage at Audley End. Not sure if any progress has been made recently.
Some pics from the North Weald end of the flypast by the Hurricane…

Well at North Weald, a famous Battle of Britain RAF station, we had the local RAFA branch and a Colour Party from 56 Squadron attend a memorial service in St Andrew’s Church, before coming to the Tower for a reception. We took a picture in front of our Gate Guardian Hurricane, which is in 56 Squadron markings of both colours. By chance the BBMF were also at the Airfield today as Coningsby was out of wind limits. The Spitfire and Hurricane did a run and break after their Westminster flypast just at the right moment, before coming in to land.

The EC155 came in to North Weald yesterday from Fairoaks for circuits and hover practice before departing to Stansted. Some pics on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/northwealdairfield
Some pics from North Weald. Because of the headwind there was some doubt whether it would happen. But we did see them, which was great.

On its way to Biggin Hill to have its blisters refitted.

Our annual community Fun Day and Fly-in on Sunday 9 September has a Norwegian theme this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the two Norwegian Spitfire squadrons at the Airfield in 1942.
Once again, the Royal Norwegian Air Force is sending over two F-16s from 331 and 332 Squadrons along with a C-130 Hercules, which will be flying in the veterans and a working party to help complete the ‘Little Norway’ revetment project, which will be formally opened during the event.
Warbirds of Norway will also be visiting with their two Vampires and hopefully the newly acquired T-33. The Norwegians will be arriving on Friday (time tbc) and departing mid afternoon on Sunday. The Hercules will drop off the passengers and depart on Friday, returning again on Sunday.
Entry on Sunday is £5 per person. Proceeds will be going to the RAFA Wings Appeal. All children’s rides and entertainment will be free – a big incentive for families to attend. Gates open at 10.00, community arena events from 11.00.
There will also be military vehicles and re-enactors, a classic car and bike show (including a Harley Davidson ride-in), community displays, a large static display of radio-controlled model aircraft and lots more. Kids will have their own “Adventure Corner” with free rides, bouncy castles and entertainers. There are also Community Arena displays .
The aircraft static park will feature a special line up of trainers celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Central Flying School – you won’t see this anywhere else!!!

We are always happy to show visitors around the tower, providing we are not too busy. Call in at the Ops Office and ask, and we’ll see what we can do.
That was him in his Bonanza on his way to NW from Elstree.
The Spitfire took off for a short practice to the east and was working Stapleford Radio.
A second display yesterday afternoon too.
The Hangar 11 Collection Spitfire PRXI was displaying over the Gunpowder Mills at 3pm, flying out of North Weald.
Air Britain will be holding their Classic Fly-in over the weekend of 9-10 June. This year they are featuring the Piper Cub and Aeronca.
The community fun day is on Sunday 9 September. The theme this year is ‘Norwegian Wings over North Weald’, and is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the arrival of 331 and 332 Squadrons at the Airfield in 1942. Once again we are expecting the F-16s of the two squadrons from Bodø. Last time they arrived on the Friday afternoon.
We will also have a variety of warbirds and classic jets on show, but things are still in the planning stages at the moment.
There is also a fly-in planned for April, but the date and theme are still to be confirmed, and if the plans come together it will be a well worth a visit!
