If anyone is visiting and would like to go up the Tower, again ask at the main gate, we can normally accommodate this.
The Airfield welcomes visitors. If you are not sure where you are going, stop at the main gate for a map and briefing. What most people don’t realise is that once you pass the runway threshold onto liveside your car insurance is void. if you have an incident with an aircraft, that could be very expensive indeed. The signs are partly to stop market visitors from trying to exit the Airfield via the runways (which has happened).
Some areas are privately leased, and the owners/operators don’t want people wandering around on their aprons unannounced and without permission. Unfortunately a few people regard having an interest in aviation as a permit to go anywhere. Phone or e-mail the hangars beforehand.
The destination for almost all visitors is The Squadron. On a busy day it is a great place to be. All we ask is that you exercise care and common sense. No big deal really!
The Regal Beagle went to Boscombe Down as a spares source to keep the other Basset there flying. Some of the interior was donated to help fit out the B206 prototype at Shoreham.
A friend of mine tried to buy it. Apparently the problem was the engine/prop combination, which was unique and the props aren’t made any more. Any change of type would have cost thousands.
A good excuse to get on to Gnats. G-MOUR comes home…

After some Beagles how about a Bassett doing a flypast?

The Community Day this year is on Sunday 5 June. The theme will be the 70th anniversary of the American Eagle Squadrons at North Weald. We have some exciting ideas, but everything is still very much in the planning stages. So be patient!
13:50 today at North Weald. A four-ship formation from IV(R) Squadron at RAF Wittering performed a flypast at 360 knots and 1000 feet, callsign “Poison Formation”. It was one of a series today over airfields where the Squadron had been based – 1943 for North Weald. A sad occasion and a little bit of history…

A couple of pics of the Hatfield Beacon being removed from North Weald…

Here are a few from my ‘office’ window taken on a normal working day. A large part of my job is manning the tower at North Weald, but we don’t always get time to take pics!

No Norwegian aircraft this year. The Norwegian armed forces visited the Airfield Memorial for a special event back in May. The veterans included General Møhr, who commanded 332 Squadron.
