My pleasure, Geoff.
Must mention that Clive Denney gave us some cracking flypasts in the Hurricane. Who can blame him taking the long way back to Duxford!

Just got back and seen this very sad news. Still sinking in that I’ll never see Steve again.
On another thread, he hoped we’d take the ‘Dog for a run yesterday. Well Steve, we did eventually have a very enjoyable flight. Every time I think of it from now on, I’ll think of you.
The world of aviation has lost a true gentleman.
Condolences to Julie and Haydn and his family.

Marvellous news. I’m glad things are working out for you all again.
Heard on Tuesday that the CAA have reinstated my medical with no restrictions at long last. So hopefully will be taking the ‘Dog for a run on Sunday. All of a sudden the world looks a bit brighter for me too.

Excellent, Paul. I really liked your Mossie paintng too.

There is no show as such. Clive Denney will probably do a short display as he has done on similar occasions in the past. They will probably pull a few things out of the hangar too. I expect Peter Teichman will be flying one or other of his machines! We are never too sure what will be around, there’s usually something interesting going on. If the Aerostars are flying we may get the Fiat G46 in from WW.
The Squadron’s phone no. is 01992 524510. Speak to Alan.
If you need a lift, let me know. It’s not that far through the Tunnel for me.

There is a consultation meeting to be held later this year, September I believe, The North Weald Users Group has been invited to put our case. Depending on the otcome, there may then be a public enquiry.
With London now hosting the Olympics, there is also an argument in favour of using NW as LCY (although closer) doesn’t have the capacity for large numbers of bizjets. NW’s main runway is certainly long enough at 1920 metres.
The council are also now looking at alternative sites for the housing within the local area, which they hadn’t done before, so they now have a ‘Plan B’ as well – at long last!
We are keeping our fingers crossed. Looking forward to this weekend’s event.

Marvellous. It’s pictures like this which make the Flypast forum so special. Thanks for sharing.

Nice shots,. Hope the sun shines tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing.

A few more pics. The Cat was having an interesting time not overtaking the Ansons and Lockheed 12 in the flypast practice. Shame I haven’t got a long lens!
Nice pics, loads of Merlins! Saw the An-2 on Wednesday at Little Gransden when we had our new Yak up there for adjustments to the air system. They disappeared into a gap between the thunderstorms. We stayed overnight and dodged the showers back to S/end on Thursday.

That Miles shot is wonderful! To think what we were missing while we were plodding round the circuit at Stapleford in a Piper spammy.
YR
Marvellous news. Now wouldn’t that be a great sight in formation with a Brisfit, Hind and Nimrod at Leg Ends!

The highest ground in the area is Scafell Pike (3210 feet), with several others nearby at around 3000. Looking at the Northern England chart, his course would have taken him very close to these and also Skiddaw, which is 3055 and just to the north of Keswick. Eel Crag itself is 2749 feet, and just over a mile to the west is Grasmoor, which is 2791.
I have attached some pics. The first is of Eel Crag from the north west and shows the mine road (Force Crag Mine). Eel Crag is the high ground on the right.
The second shows Eel Crag from the south west. Again it is the highest ground in the picture.
Pics three and four show views from the top. Keswick is in the foreground by the lake (Derwentwater). Skiddaw is the high ground to the left in the distance in pic 3.
Pic four shows Grisedale Pike, which is across the valley from Eel Crag. It shows how precipitous the ground is around the crags. The actual top is a grassy plateau.

Still use the whizzwheel. Doesn’t need batteries and will go on for ever.
What never ceases to amaze me is what a mish mash of different measurements we have to deal with: altitude in feet; runway length in metres (or feet); distance in nautical miles; airspeed in mph, kph or knots; fuel in litres; tank capacity in US Gallons….
I was back seat in the new Yak on Wednesday/Thursday, (we got stuck at Little Gransden after some maintenance over-ran and thunderstorms caught us out and had to spend the night in a B&B). Back seat altimeter was in metres, with the sub-scale in Cm of Mercury. Lots of mental arithmetic going on when transiting the low level corridor past NW!
YR
Some great pictures. Look forward to seeing more in the future.
