It was at North Weald last weekend for the Aerofair.
Attached are a couple of pics. One of the cockpit and the other of the aircraft in its original Swedish scheme when it first came to NW last year as one of three.

The Cat finally departed North Weald for the South of France around noon today. Let’s hope they have a safe trip to Israel. Sorry to see the old girl go.

It was doing its first test flight today – about 45 minutes. I was out in the Bulldog and came in to land just as they were waiting to go.
Nice short run then off it went for some very gentle manoeuvres circling out to the east. Glad it all went safely.

I was lucky enough to fly in there a couple of years ago, when the local ATC Squadron organised an event.
The museum in the tower is fascinating – lots of B17 and Canberra memorabilia. It too is on the other side of the Army’s fence, so we had to be let in and out. Not sure if it’s possible to get in to see it at any other time via the Guard Room.
Sadly the fly-in wasn’t repeated, and the annual one at Nuthampstead has also been discontinued as far as I am aware because of insurance problems.
At least one hangar remains. We saw it when we went past on our way to OW for the last evening show.

Excellent news. Best time of year for you to make the most of it as well.

“Ungainly and spindly”
Not any more, the new TD is absolutely gorgeous!

Have written and received a letter back from the council:
“Variations of conditions 5 and 7 of planning permission 91/01370/APP relating to number of movements and hours of operation for vintage aircraft days on 19/09/04, 30/10/04, 15/01/05, 13/02/05, 16/04/05, 18/09/05 and 29/10/05 between 09.00 and 18.00 hours.
Our senior planning officers are authorised to decide most of the applications we receive. However some are decided by Councillors who sit on our Development Control Committee. If the application you have commented on is to be determined by our Development Control Committee we will notify you a few days beforehand, inviting you to register to speak at the meeting if you wish…
In considering your comments we are only able to take matters into account which are relevant from a planning standpoint…”
This may be of some use in drafting what you say in any letters you all send.

Wonderful pictures. It’s amazing what people keep finding.
I might be stirring things up, but doesn’t it look like the upper wings, upper fuselage, tail plane and wheel cover are red. You can’t actually see where the red of the roundel ends, and the red of the tail flash seems to match these tones.
The wings could be green, of course, or even silver like the second picture. It’s funny how light plays tricks, especially in these old photos.
Running for cover.

Built like a T34?
Definitely not the Beech Mentor. He would have lost his wings for sure and ended up as a big fireball. The Mentors have had a load of structural failures in recent years and people have died – they’ve been popular at giving ‘Top Gun’ combat experience flights to pilots and enthusiasts alike. I wouldn’t want to get in one and pull a whole lot of G.

Here’s a still. He really couldn’t have got much lower without breaking his neck.

I think after that roll he would be scraping brown stuff off the inside of the canopy. Very lucky to get away with it.

Have to agree. we did 4 sorties in the Yak yesterday and the visibility was getting better through the day.
In the morning we were playing with the clouds at 3,000 feet over Abberton Reservoir, then a trip to North Weald and back. In the afternoon we were doing aeros to the east of Bradwell Bay at 4,000 feet. Could see well beyond Felixstowe, which is about 25 nm.
My loops and rolls are definitely getting better!

Nice shot. I always liked the Javelin. It’s just one of the vintage RAF jets I would like to see flying again. Trouble is a big Lottery win just isn’t enough (even with CAA approval)!
Have to rely on memories, and the old grey cells are getting fewer bythe year.
YR
Miss Helen’s getting an airing then! Will try and see this Bluenoser off …

They are Permit aircraft, daytime VFR, so no reason why an NPPL can’t fly them. You can do conversions onto complex types provided they do not weigh more than 2 tonnes. The Yak 52’s max all up weight is 1315Kg. You just need to find a friendly Yak pilot.
