Excellent shots Robert, I like the CP 737 with the RR RB2-11 engined BA 747 in the background.
Cracking shots mate, the SAAB scheme is great.

My apologies, I was under the impression she was also Merlin capable. Do you know if there are plans to fly the EH101 off her later?
Turbinia,
The deck is capable of operating the Merlin quite comfortably but she is not getting the clearances at the moment. The First of class flying trials will be completed by a Seaking Mk4 from Qinetiq with a Wave class RFA in company to support the trials and provide a spare deck facility. I suspect that not long after she deploys to the Falklands and meets up with a T23 which has a Merlin the request will come in to get clearance to carry out Deck Landing Practise with a Merlin. She will be able to operate Seaking all marks, Lynx all marks and possibly S61N (Falklands based).
All the best

Good news….Are you looking forward to the Malta airshow?
Si
Richard, They also use the light aircraft to transport relief crew and maintainers around the country, I think they also have a Baron.
Cheers guys…..
Si
Cheers mate.

It was supposed to have been filmed in ILLUSTRIOUS however it all fell through at the last minute……
The two Castle class OPV’s do not have an embarked helicopter but have a full size heli deck and re-fueling facilities for supporting heli ops so I imagine the Clyde will be the same. Some of the earlier River class OPV’s have enough deck space for a small helicopter but the Clyde has a proper deck to support EH101 ops.
She will only be cleared to operate Lynx and Seaking.

Hopefully visiting Bristol tomorrow (Friday)……I’ll be there!
Great shots there.Si do you know if the Indian Navy still fly Sea Harriers?
James
James,
Yes they are still flying, I was working with them in May. They are getting pretty old now and leak fuel from every orifice (including panel seams). The pilots are extremely professional as were the maintainers dispite there rather unauthordox ways of maintaining the jets. Most of the pilots are leaving the Harriers to train up on the new Mig 29MK which is an unbelievable machine.
All the best

Mark, I wouldn’t let it bother you mate…I am sick and tired of sending what I think (and others) good photos to a certain .net site and I have had 2 accepted in 3 years. I also get frustrated when I compare my shots to some of the shots that are accepted and se the quality is inferior to mine but they have a 100% acceptance rate. They ask for rare shots yet I sent them a selection of photos of Indian Navy Sea Harriers
which I was recently working with and they rejected it saying there wasn’t enough information….Indian Navy Sea Harriers don’t have registrations only a 2 digit side number and it was on a ship in the Arabian Sea (which I told them).these aircraft are rare (they loose at least 1 a year in accidents)..so mate I gave up! Anyway off my soap box, your phot is excellent and well composed and awesome lighting…..keep it up!
