    Nice selection there Si.

Who does the DC-8 in the first shot belong to? UPS?

The QF 747 at LHR is the pick of the bunch for me. 🙂

Thanks, yes the DC8 was a UPS aircraft. IAD have quite a few come and go along with the Airborne Express 767’s

    All the best

Wow! What amazing shots, very crisp clear and sharp – love the United and Air France 777. May i ask what lens you are using mate?

Hi James, I am using the Canon 100-400 IS USM Lens, fantastic piece of kit.

Good stuff Jason, I was up in Newcastle yesterday and managed to get some shots at the airport post my meeting onboard Ark Royal and before I flew back to Bristol. The end of runway 2%? is a great spot, unfortunatley the only aircraft landing when I arrived were Easyjet and RYR 737s. Managed to get a shot of the EK departing from the Samson Aviation hangar.

Rob, Must agree with Adam, the third from last shots is well composed. I sometime frequent Bristol Airport fence line, I am way outside the league some of the other guys who post some very professional looking images on this forum, however if you want to meet sometime I would be happy to go through some settings etc with you.

Nice one Barry, I keep hearing and seeing the Salzburg is aviation phot heaven, some great Russian types flying in and out. I see from one of your shots there are a lot of photographers (Photo 9). Is that on the airport or just outside the fence? I guess you would need to be there very early to get a good spot.

Just flew into Heathrow last night from Boston on a BAW T7 (IJ). We departed BOS at 0815, landing at LHR at 1927; interesting to see that in the USA there was little or no coverage of the accident, CNN and FOX mentioned it but not in depth. Also interesting to note that the flight was virtually empty even though on checking in online I noted most of the seats in Club were full however on boarding most were empty. Had a great chat with the First Officer and Senior Cabin Director about the incident with no speculation on what had happend (very refreshing). It was also very refreshing to look around the cabin during the safety demo to see absoultley everyone putting down their reading material, stop chatting and listen intently to the demo. The only delay I had on the route was the taxi from 27R to T4 (3 quaters of an hour), and of course the every so joyful baggage claim at T4.

I am not one for speculation or posting of comments when an ongoing investigation is in full throw but what I will say is bravo to the crew, the safety services and London ATC. As we discussed on the plane yesterday, it doesnt matter who you are or what responsiblity you have, considering they had just undertaken such a long haul sortie, they reacted superbly to the incident and I suspect saved many lives in the process. The Fire and Rescue teams performed admirably, again considering the actual incidents that happen. I know these guys practise, practise and practise but you get complacent quite easily (I was a Fire and Rescue Team Commander during the Firefighters Strike based at Hounslow, supplimenting LHR Crews during incidents) and reacting to the real thing is a lot different from exercises; it is a whole different adrenalin rush!! They did a superb job in reacting to and controlling the scene and casualty handling etc. Again hats off to London Control who again have a plan in place ready for such an event and they implimented it with the utmost professionalism….if any of the teams involved read this….well done!!!

As i said above Si i think with there been no BAA fire cover at an airport it means that aircraft cant land or take off. Could be a possible Diversion.

Thanks for the comments guys; Barajas is pretty good for photography but you do need a car to get around the various spots. If you haven’t got a car then I would recommed staying in the town of Barajas (Best Western is not bad) and you can walk to the spot where the aircraft taxi past on their way t the northerly runways. You also get the Veuling/Air Nostrum and Iberia Baby Buses taxi past on there way to T3. When the sun is setting you can get some stunning shots of the aircraft on the taxiway…..but not when I was there!!!

Nice Viscount… what was it’s previous employer ? And did you mention a DC-8 ???

The Viscount picture was taken in Victoria BC Canada at the museum beside the airport. She was previously operated by Air Canada.

And here is a DC8 just for you mate.
