Excellent photos Kenneth. What’s the story on the He 111 under restoration ? Is it an He-111 or a Casa ?

It’s a CASA 2.111 (c/n 025), ex D-CAGI, G-AWHA, B.21-77 (Spanish AF), which has been displayed here for many years in a camouflage paint scheme (but without markings). It is being restored in its original Spanish AF colours, which I find a very commendable decision (rather than trying to display it as something which it isn’t).

I don’t suppose you know what the missile/launch vehicle is in the background of the jet row photo is ?

Sorry, I don’t 😮 I’ll have a look next time I go there and let you know 😉

    16) VAK-191 VTOL research aircraft hiding under a Dornier Do 31
    17) One of Lutwaffe’s last C-47 (retired in 1976)

These are only some of the aircraft in this museum. If anyone needs directions to the museum, I’d be pleased to help.

Hope you enjoyed the pics… 😉

    11) Jet row…
    12) MiG-23 Flogger cockpit
    13) Lockheed T-33
    14) MiG-15UTI (Lim-2bis)
    15) Only (?) Hindustan Marut in Europe; IIRC Kurt Tank of Focke-Wulf fame participated in the design of this aircraft, hence its being on display here.

Nice pics, Galdri 🙂 If you would happen to come across one of the KZ-III’s or KZ-VII’s on Iceland with your new camera in at hand, then I’d be very pleased to see a pic of those too…. 😀

Nice pics and some very interesting aircraft. I really admire the Swedish Air Force’s efforts in preserving historic aircraft in airworthy condition. Do you know if their J29 is still flying (heard that the engine needs an overhaul as it almost time-expired).

Tack så mycket, Papa Lima 🙂

It would seem that C-130’s are still in too high demand for many to be allocated to museums. As far as I know the Danish Air Force’s three C-130H – which are more than 25 years old – have been traded back to Lockheed and will be leaving Denmark now that the C-130J’s have been delivered 🙁

if my insurance company didn’t pay up following a crash landing in a field (which is not a licensed runway either!) I would be pretty upset

If sure you would, and so would I! However, what I am getting at is the following:

Suppose for example you are deliberately landing with a perfectly serviceable aircraft on an unlicensed runway, and say a wheel gets caught in rut and the aircraft is damaged. A typical insurance company over here would claim gross negligence/recklessness and refuse to pay, since you were deliberately landing on a non-approved runway….

I am not trying to split hairs, but merely curious as to what the real implications of licensed/unlicesed are…. 🙂

If you crash, damage your aircraft and/or cause 3rd party damage when using an unlicensed runway will your insurance pay up, or refuse with the argument that you were using an unlicensed runway?

    ==============

Anyway, back to the original topic…:

When I started going to airshows more than 20 years ago I was only interested in vintage aircraft, mostly warbirds and vintage light aircraft. What I could afford in terms of film back then was spent almost exclusively on these aircraft, with little attention being paid to what was around in terms of jets. Going to the airport just to have a look at airliners never occured to me. When I look through these photos today I notice that most of the vintage aircraft I paid so much attention back then are almost all still with us. Gone, however, are the RDanAF F-100’s, F-104G’s and Drakens, the USAFE F-111’s, RAF Buccaneers, Swiss AF Mirage III and Belgian AF Mirage 5, to name a few. I never bothered to travel to an air show to see a Vulcan or an SR-71, and have only seen a Concorde in flight once. I can’t remember the last time I saw a DC-8 or a DC-10. Now I look at these things differently: I try to see, take in and enjoy as many aircraft as I can today. One day they’ll be gone and then it’s too late. I recently waited in pouring rain at the airport for several hours to see an Antonov An-22, for example. Without success – it arrived 30 min after I left. When the first A380 arrives at my local airport, you bet I’ll be out there waiting. Moreover, I sincerely doubt that even the most die hard warbird enthusiast fails to be impressed by the raw power and agility of an F-16 or Eurofighter display. One day they’ll be gone too. Were you bored and looked away the last time you saw a Luftwaffe F-4F Phantom? Might be too late to rethink that decision now, credible rumours have it that with immediate effect there will be no Luftwaffe flying displays until further notice. See what I mean?

Yes, I also enjoy classic jets (could someone send the Sea Vixen over here again, please?) 🙂
