Officially I don’t know if Malden had an airport. Looking at the current aerial picture of the island. Couple of places look like old airport. Out here in the islands a NE/SW runway is normal. The spot on the NW side of the island looks like an old airport with a turnoff for parking.
You don’t need much of an island to land attached is also picture of Majuro Airport in the Marshall Island where I fly a couple of times a month.
I’ve found 3 pictures of Christmas Island back in the day of the tests. Showing Canberra’s etc on the ramp. I wanted to compare with today airport.

    Sincerely

Pix of the shack could be Malden Island. As I fly into Christmas Island doesn’t look like that airport. Aerial view from the web makes it seem like Malden Island. Both used in Grapple.

    Thanks PalmTree1

I saw that on the tail but couldn’t be sure. Since I collect registrations for my website. Just trying to figure out where SLN comes from and stands for. So now have chance to find a clue to look around some more.

Thanks again for all on this forum

    To all

While were waiting to see what happens next. I have found the people here seem to know civilian types better than anywhere on the web. I been trying to find out the story of this 172. Caption said military since that where I work with haven’t been able to find out the story behind this picture. Hope someone can help.

    Sincerely

Don Porter was the Capt. in the film. I remember him as the father in TV Gidget in the 60’s
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0692093/

Would be nice to see the show put on by I think Bob Hoover doing all the things you weren’t supposed to do in the B-26.

The CBSA KB-6 Papagol was mfg. by Caproni Bulgara SA/Samoletna Fabrika Kaproni Bulgarski factory at Kazanluk. A subsidiary of Caproni. So it was a Caproni. When you said it wasn’t a Ca.309 I knew it was the Bulgarian version. You were correct. I usually don’t answer unless I have something to try to offer. When I searched the forum found out the one I had choosen was done before. I just had found a better pix of it instead of a head on pix used on the forum. So I put in a glider. I happen to be a sailplane pilot/instructor, tow pilot also. So I know people are interested in them. I have spent my flying career flying the butt of the spear and I know some people only want to see the “Tip of the Spear”. So you can’t please all the people all the time. My first entry really stumped the panel so have been trying to find another like that but it’s hard with all the experts here. I like the one off’s and the unusall a/c.
Over the years have seen political correctness gone too far. Personally I have a hard time spotting a Douglas B-17 or a Ford B-24 or a Swedish T-6, Lockheed Fort Worth Divison F-16 out of all the pix’s of them.
The attached scan shows the Smithsonian Book listing aircraft as calling it a KB-309 where they came up with that I don’t know.
Again you were correct in that it was the Bulgarian KB-6. Putting a different engine or windows was not that big a mod as compared to designing a aircraft from scratch.

Again I enjoy all the strange aircraft on the forum many of which I haven’t seen before. Usaully the civilain one’s.

    Sincerely

    Chris

Attached are scanned from 2 diff. books on a/c mfg. the KB-309 reference was a Smithsonian Book. “Directory of Airplanes” by Dana Bell page 69

It was a Ca.309 just built in Bulgaria. I had one ready to go but checked the forum and was used before. So went with this another glider built by well known company not known for gliders.
