If you look carefully at the photo a gentleman has kindly reproduced
Gents, I would suggest that a polite private exchange of pm’s on the subject would be most beneficial to you and everyone else and perhaps help you come to a mutual understanding of the facts, clearly of events from a long long time ago, rather than turn this very useful thread into another XH558 type thread.:)
Can’t help thinkling that in their absence, Mr Putin is going to task his sub fleet with taking some embarrassing photographs of themselves in some very hilarious and sensitive areas of the UK. (I think he should)
Is there really no sub detection facility available at all for the UK from next week???
Does that mean that there will be no Nimrods at all other than perhaps an R1? flying anywhere, until the new ones are delivered?
The ghost of RF398 was pure invention, I was a member of the RAF Cosford Aerospace Museum at the time and Hendon wanted to move RF398 to Manchester.
Many members had worked on Lincolns and didnt want to loose her so invented the ghost and got local media in on the act for the publicity, Hendon relented and left 398 where she was.
I know a former RAF tech who would take great issue with that statement.
(With apologies to the originator on the ‘558 thread of the red bit above!)
Chortle! Chortle!!
😀
There was a photo on either here or WIX showing a mid upper turret from a Lanc somebody had found in OZ the Frazer Nash version if memory serves me correctly no so long ago?
Wasn’t that the ultra rare ventral turret?
I’ve found a simple rule of thumb when restoring anything- The longer you have word out about wants, the more likely you are to source the parts you need. Common sense I’d have thought…
The second rule would appear to be: As soon as you have taken delivery of a mega expensive short series production run of some very hard to obtain components, a box of NOS turns up for a fiver on ebay!!
might want to slip a “1940’s” onto the end of the title…. 🙂
Try Tim Savage, he had a complete 250 CE with a new blown dome out of a Canadian Lanc mk X for sale last October

I don’t suppose the ridiculous 737 insurance requirement has helped one bit. I hate the EU…….
Is this one on the Kinloss dump?
No one has ever replace the top boom on a shack, they all had the bottom booms replaced in their liftime, but never the top boom
Any idea why top boom replacement is now mandatory when the much higher utilised lower and web have already been done? Interesting to note that this was never required for an in service Shack.
It’s here for another season- lets just make the most of it and hope the financial and management issues are sorted over the year ok?
Forget it, a DOOMSTERS work is never done.
And I can assure you (and Mr Pleming if he’s bothered to read any of this thread) that I won’t be donating or pledging one more penny to XH558 while the current (mis)management in still in place……
I’m sure he’s got much better things to do with his time.
Just in case:
Well done XH558 team, another display season in the air and in the midst of a thinly disguised economic Depression too.
A stunning achievement by any measure. Keep up the good work.
