Before you do anything else, you should start with a roof over her head. Compared with the costs to fly her, a modest hanger (materials and erection) are a drop in the ocean. Whats the potential for a cheap and longterm secure airside site for a hanger?
If nothing else, I’d bet it would make an excellent base ball bat substitute for keeping by the bed. :diablo:
I think you’d be surprised how many people don’t know what a Shackleton is these days.
I’d love to see one again, many a fond memory of Shacks circuit bashing at Kinloss and Lossie.
I fear the only way we may ever see one in the air is if someone has a huge wad of cash to donate and a love of four Griffons in close formation. Spend five million on it to get it airworthy and its market value is what?
Would seem quite rare and yours for a Grand.
So that’s where the DH badge I recovered from Wellington L7775 – Beinn a’ Bhuird goes!! That was a lucky find indeed as it was attached to a small piece of spinner and almost unscathed IIRC. Mus look it out.
Whilst we are all indulging ourselves in healthy and excited idle speculation, please let me have another go:
The four engined bomber script isn’t a smoke screen for a two engined bomber project is it? Mid 2010 delivery for the second engine doesn’t suggest a particularly friendly delivery for a possible outrageous Jackson/Dambusters useage, given the other work required.
1. They haven’t commissioned a wooden fuselage from down under on the QT to mount these on perhaps?
2. They haven’t bought the Beaufighter off TFC on the QT and are preparing two Lanc power eggs in advance of converting it to a more CAA and parts/prop availability friendly Beaufighter II?? 😀
Next pls…
That’s the engines sorted, now which UK outfit is installing the bomb bay/door mods and producing the mine and it’s deployment gear?
:dev2:
How about a replica of the 1/2 scale S-31 prototype instead?

4 x Pobjoy Niagera’s and the jobs a good un!
And since when has the fact that it has improved safety marginsever been a factor in CAA decision making?
In reply to Andy G, yes but not the one we are referring to.
It is exactly the same though Mike isn’t it! (I’m not seeking a tenner really :D)
Only difference I can see is that one’s wheelbarrow of paperwork has a sweet garlic aroma.
I was at St Athan in the early ’50s and I remember them ground running them.
As to the clipped props I was told that an overenthusiastic fitter allowed the tail to get up and the props hit the ground!
Can anyone add the actual details?
I remember another suggested answer to this from some years back, however I have no idea if it is true or not. The answer then was that they were deliberately clipped to prevent it ever being flown. Is there not another ex St Athan German machine suffering a similar fate?
Very sad story indeed….
Does any of the experts here know if it is possible to extricate yourself from any mk of ejector seats manually, with the still packed parachute still attached to the occupant? ie if you found yourself in a dead seat scenario at altitude, with a reasonably low enough airspeed, could you still get out? (ignoring the then hazards of airframe collision)
On UKAR…you can view as a guest…
Thanks for that. Link now pinned for my previously regular fix.
Blimey they have been busy. Looks great.
Thanks for the replies.
Any idea of a link to the best current thread elsewhere please?
Maybe he’s waiting for Just Janes restoration to flight? :diablo:
