That will be these two then

Ahh! thanks at lot for that!

Many a fine summer (mid 70’s) spent in my youth playing in both of these fine aeroplanes. Had to sneak inside and hide when the MP’s did their rounds. When I was there, the MK 3 was the tool of choice as it was at that point relatively unscahted and still had a couple of engines and a a few propellors attached. Control columns in situ but no yokes. The MK 1 was also unburnt but not such a fine fit-out. I can almost smell the fine aroma of their internals from the photos. The MK 3 was always sitting on its tail due to the lack of a full complement of engines and it was so finely balanced that it was possible to lift the tail and get the nose moving! Elevator rods where cut, but it was possible to operate the elevators from around the aft door by pushing and pulling on the aft section of the pushrods.

Got caught by the MP’s one day and driven to the guard room with my mates where I had to sit and await my father to collect me when his shift finished……:diablo:

IIRC there was a second burnt out MK 1 nose left for a while and also a 2 seat Meteor fuselage there. Come to think of it there was also a classic Riley Pathfinder car and a very very old three wheel early car, the sort that looked like a horse drawn carriage with a small front wheel and engine underlsung on the dump too! Wonder what became of them?

There was so much junk on the dump back then, I wonder what treasures there might have been hidden, when seen through today’s eyes?

    Memories. :):):)

Bet you all a tenner that we see a 190 fly in the UK this year. 😀

In a freighter out of Stansted?

Not that I’m going to take you up on it but I feel that is a bet you are fated to lose. You’ll be seing pink elephants next:D

It would appear that a 190 has indeed flown in the UK this year as predicted.:D

Blenheim – The problem exists because it’s not a ‘new build’ FW-190 . These are new aircraft that differ in a number of aspects to the original. The French example flies on the French register – the U.K CAA is obliged to offer it passage but might not necessarily approve of the type itself. Effectively the original design has been altered with a number of compromises to allow a production batch.

Therefore whilst you might think you are seeing a WWII warbird -you are not .

Lets face it, how many thin but not quite so robust provenance recent UK single engine ‘restorations’ are ‘original WWII warbirds’? (don’t go there….:diablo:)

How does the situation with the much loved and flown in the UK new build Vimy with it’s car engines compare to the very nice Flugwerk 190’s?

Our CAA really needs it’s asss kicked into the current milleneum…….

    Hi Kev,

That looks remarkably like an old GEC calibrator for a brain impulse galvanoscope with the record and transfer function. Circa 1968 I’d hazard a guess. Last time I saw one of those was in the Dept. of Aviation medicine at Farnborough.

Yes, taken at Eastleigh on roll-out of the Dutch 2-seat Spitfires. A lot of effort was taken by Classic Aero to get the scheme as accurate as possible to the original BS147, (with a little assistance with the stencilling and colours). I think they have made a great job and its a treat to see these shots of her together with PV202.

    Ah hah!

    Thanks for that.

    Is this an old photo?

If not, whose is the third 2 seater? Is it Mr P Bayliss or is it Mr P Shop?

In the absence of a decision from our gutless, spinless and incompetant Nu Lab leaders as to the procurement of the ‘new’ carriers, perhaps we ought to give it a full service, a lick of paint then operate her!!!

Does anyone know if the project has access to a Pegasus with the correct pusher reduction gearbox?

I understand that the thrust bearing arrangement for the pusher is somewhat different from the more common type.

Anyone know if this is correct?
