Thanks for that chaps, most helpful indeed.
Are all the functions accessable from the seat or does he need to move around within the nose at all?
[QUOTE=JDK] What differences there are with a ‘pusher’ vs a tractor Pegasus I don’t know;QUOTE]
The axial thrust loads on the output shaft of a ‘pusher’ are pushing into the engine casing rather than pulling away as in a tractor. I’d imagine that this would require a different design of thrust bearing and output shaft for the reduction gear setup, although without a drawing of a pusher is hard to verify.
Anyone have a section through a ‘pusher’ Pegasus?
Did the airframe come with a ‘pusher’ variant of the Pegasus? Pete Rushen once told me that unless they came up with a suitable engine it would not fly. Thrust bearing configuration is different in a ‘pusher’ as I recall.
I notice the project comes with 5 engines, “2 each Bristol Hercules – original engines” any idea what condition the two original engines were in?
What happened to the other Beaufighter project in the UK and did it have useable engines and propellors?
FANTASTIC!
A soon to be internet classic.
Imagine a Hamster hand cuffed to the yolk 😮
I take it that the recovered data plate was considered to be in potentially ‘airworthy’ condition, following a full ndt inspection of course? :diablo:
I love your “Enough to to maintain a ‘thin but robust’ serial provenance” statements. Which considering that this will be a very ‘new’ airframe ultimately is perfectly acceptable under the circumstances. Not enough early Spits around at the moment.
Considering the salt water buried environment, any idea how the materials survived? i.e. any airworthy parts recoverable?
Thats amazing, was it uncovered like that for a long time?
Did you have a scout about at any mass Halifax scrapping sites? Mostly farmers fields these days but infrastructure from the sattelite fields is still there.
The wings are a little ‘Delta’ in configuration as well, which doesn’t go down well around here at all….. :diablo:
No one excited about the Morane 406 then? 🙂
But no SAAB B-17 🙁
TT
Bloody excited!! Always thought these types deserved a bit more coverage.
Wonder what the TFC surprise is?
Isn’t it nice to be ‘allowed’ by the teachers to have unhindered discusions about this years Flying Legends participants?
Ahhhhh…… 😀 😀
Thanks for that Mark
The leading edge of the Seafire canopy appears to slant forward much more than say a MK XIV. Is this a peculiarity of the Seafire?
I seem to remember the MK 47 Seafire having an incorrect bubble canopy fitted at one point in its life which didn’t match the angle of the forward fixed section?
What exactly is the problem with the general public asking even speculating what might be expected to be seen at FL this year, especially on a widely read public forum?
Particular ‘inner circle’ private forum users appear to believe that their personal views on the subject are sacrosanct and must be obeyed by the interlopers…
