    RE: Cheap airlines

When i flew Easyjet last month their in-flight magazine had an article on the ways they keep their fares so low.
The first of course was food. Its not free, if you want it you buy it. But as low budget airlines tend to be short-haul you rarely do. The money you’ve saved tends to feed your appetite on these flights!!
Lack of tickets is the next. You recieve a letter of confirmation which you take to the cheak-in and acts as a ticket.
Flying the one type of aircraft, which brings the cost of maintenance down, and the training of cabin crew as they only need to be familiar with one model.
On line booking. Alot of their tickets are brought on line as they are cheaper, reducing the amount of tele-sales costs. I think they eventually would like all ticket sales to take place from their website.
Flying from luton where air traffic is less making the turn around more economical and faster.

I think they cut on gimmicks not safety!

    RE: Flying Easyjet

Ive flown with Easyjet several times, and i certainly don,t think of them as low budget. Every plane of their’s that ive been on has looked great! Very new looking, Smart and tidy. They dont in anyway appear malnurished. They score higher in the interior department for me than many high priced airlines!! Airlines arn’t allowed to cut on maintanance are they? And as for costs, I know its nice to get a meal on flights, but an 8o% increase in fares is a very expensive snack. Id recommend them for mainland flights.

    RE: Aeroplane Crashes

Am i making this up or did i once read somewhere that aircraft designers were trying to develop some sort of bomb proof coating for new planes? Does this exist? Did they try and could’nt? A good idea though, hey?!!
What makes an airline safe! Arnt most accidents caused by the passengers and not the actual planes? If thats the case isnt it just a question of tight security! Does security differ from one airline to another? But for instance, take the recent episode of that guy running into the cockpit of a 747 and sending it into a dive!, does this make BA an unsafe airline?, no!! Such random acts surely bare no relation to the level of safety an airline has. In which case in’nt one airline just as likely to come under attack as another. What airport security guard could have detected that, if they could have they would.

Or does the safety of an aircraft reduce with age, thus making the airline’s with the youngest fleet the safest?!

    RE: A380

    Hey Dutchy,
Sorry to sound naive but whats a jet wash?
Dont know that im particularly keen to fly on one, I can imagine feeling very belittled and small on one. When i fly i like to feel my life is worth keeping! If you know what i mean?!! Ive yet to fly on a large carrier.

RE: 747 Classic vs new planes

I hope that boeing will introduce new versions of the 747. It would be a shame to see such a magnificent aircraft leave the skies. As the A380 is going to be so large there surely is going to have to be some intermediate size aircraft in operation. Many destinatons will not require such enormity. Will that not be the market for new 747’s?
Although the 380’s look great, the 747’s still top it for me. I think they’re quite sexy looking!!!!

    RE: A380

Ive heard about these A380’s, supposedly having gyms, bars and beds etc. surely it must be hype. Since when have you been on a plane and not been advised to wear your seat belt at all times? Imagine 500 people queing up for the tread mill, and if all that space is lost to entertainment rooms arnt they going to be losing seats, thus bringing the cost of the remaining ones up? I reckon they’ll be pretty standard inside. Does anyone know anything factual about them other than measurements?

What about American? I cant decide if their livery looks spectacular or like its come out of the manufacturer’s two weeks early, missing the air brush artist!!!!

RE: Air France – What are they like??

I flew Air France last month: heathrow to CDG. Flight lasted about 45 mins, on an A320. There were about 6 cabin crew on board and the plane wasn’t even half full so most of them were redundent. I thought the 320 was about the size of a b737 and they only have 3 cabin crew, am i mistaken?
Anyway, the flight was at 8.45pm so i was expecting breakfast! all i got was a very small danish pastry. However all the crew were exceptionally friendly, more so than others, but the aircraft interior looked in need of an overhaul. It didnt come close to the smartness and neatness of even Easyjet!!
    Anyway the flight was fine.
    Best feature: friendly cabin crew!!!
