RE: New wall planner in new issue

A free wall planner is great.

You can’t expect a free full on calender that you would expect to see going for £5 + in the shops.

I’m sure they in no way have the budget for that. I know Airliner World is the biggest mag of its kind, but It is still a specialist mag with in world magerzine terms a small market.

Airliner World is great. Don’t complain for getting something free and support the company that issue’s you with it.

    RE: top ten charters

I feel a little unfair doing this as I can’t really make an informed opinion as I haven’t flown on all these airlines in the past year.

To do it properly you would have to fly each airline the same route within say a week to get a good objection. But here it goes anyway!

    1: Brittania

    2: Monarch

    3: Air 2000

    4: Airtours

    5: JMC

    RE: Monarch Airlines

I have friends who flew with Monarch this summer. From Gatwick to Sorrento in Italy on an A300.

Is it normal for them to opperate such large planes on short haul european flights? Apparently the plane was configured to maximam capacity, about 300+, And was very cramped. Which was fine for Europe, but not sure about a trans atlantic.

They had no complaints other then lack of space. Even that was more an observation. Service etc was good.

    RE: Favourite & worst looking

The 747 400 has surely got to be the most impressive looking plane ever. Just for it’s sheer size. It’s so big it hardly looks like it’s moving as it rotates.

Nothing gets attention at airports more than these jumbo’s.

I love the look of all the Airbus models. Particually the 320/330/340’s.I love the uniformity they seem to have. They are very obviously part of they same family.

Not sure about the new 340 600 though. It looks very out of proportion, although I’m sure it will fly a treat.

As for boeing, the NG 737’s and 777’s are fantastic.

    RE: virgin

I’ve got a friend who is quite high up in Virgin so Ive learnt abit about there reaction to the aireline recesion.

They cut back about 500 cabin crew. But a good 200 went of their own accord. Taking the redundancy package that was offered. The rest are on hold until business picks up again. And are seeking alternative work in the meantime.

I think the airline as a whole downsized temporarily about 20%. Chicargo and Toronto were dropped, but again only temporarily as these routes were two of their newest. And currently unprofitable. But apparently their African network is excelling.

They grounded all 747 200’s bar four. And they are looking to start recruiting again in spring.

All in all I think they are doing ok.

    RE: Overreaction regarding safety measures?

The Airline business and flying in generall is so fantastic, It’s a shame that it is constantly stilted by terrorism. Commercial jets have always been a top target.

I think the air marshall idea is probably more a deterent and confidence renewall plan. But basically, up in the air is too late. The security must happen on the ground. Come on, with todays technology, we must be able to deal with this. Surely there is a fool proof method which could be adopted within airports to stop any untoward items from getting anywhere near a plane. We’re not talking brain science here, are we?.

I don’t think you can over react regarding safety. Improved safety is always good, and I hope it goes on improving. What is a shame is hysteria caused by such events. The 1000’s of job losses within the industry is a victim of this. The suffering of the airlines is drastic, and it does seem to have been blown out of proportion. B.A’s 7000 job cuts is excessive. I believe the main culprit of this hysteria is the press. I haven’t brought a paper for the last few weeks because I dont agree with buying somthing that has the intention of inducing panic.

RE: BA gets rid of it’s tacky tails!

I thought BA were really brave, forward and open minded in the world colours designs, however i do appreciate that they didnt always work. I think they need to have a sense of uniformity to all their planes, an instantly recognizable fleet.
I do prefer the white body to their old gray, and the ribbon strip at the fore is great, and the tails with the flag flying on them, I think there good enough to keep.

    RE: Worlds biggest airlines..

“American” is now the worlds largest airline, due to their take-over of TWA. The two combined now means that American airlines has 900 aircraft in service..”replacing United airlines and gaining control of over a quarter of the US market.”

    RE: Airlinerworld chat room

I think we should have both, forum and chat room. The forum we can use for our messages and information, and the chat room for instant conversation.
We’re not all going to be in the chat room all the time so the forum will still be used. I think everyone who uses the chat room should agree to keep useing the forum!! Maybe just have the chat room at certain times for instance 4 evenings per week. I say do it and see how it goes! Excellent mate, well done.

    RE: A bed too far?

I think Virgin’s idea of premium economy is great. The leap in sevice and price from economy to business/first is severe. None but the Elite can afford it. We’re not talking paying twice as much, its more like ten times as much! Almost to the point of unacceptability.

Having an intermidiate class such as virgin’s pe, with a realistic price tag makes flying in a little more comfort accessable. Im sure premium economy has a bigger market than business/first. Im not saying that business/first would lose its customers to it, more that a healthy proportion of economy passengers would take advantage of it.

Far more people could budget for premium economy and enjoy extra comfort. Good one Virgin!!

    RE: Aeroplane Crashes

So why are so many people afraid of flying? We all know that it is the safest way to travel.

Is it because an air crash is so final! If somthing goes wrong you cant just get off and walk away, or swim. The fact is we cant fly, so we’re stuffed. Air crashes are also so dramatic, getting headline news and much publicity.

Perhaps it also has something to do with frequency. The majority of people will fly maybe just once perhaps twice a year, therefore never really becoming familiar with it. If we all flew as often as we drove, maybe it would be different. It would’nt become such a big event.

Or maybe its the fact that jo public is ignorant of the technicalities of flying, we all know how to drive, but flying we dont. Communication between pilot and passengers is limited, no one knows whats going on at the front of the plane. Im sure most people’s psyche when flying is ” this isnt natural, i,
shouldnt be up this high, whats keeping us up? Lots of people suffer enclosure problems too.
Perhaps we feel that for the length of the flight, our life is out of our control?!!!!!

    RE: A330 vs B777

Speaking of 777’s, did u read the article about them in the May issue of Airliner World? I thought it was really interesting! Taking you through the whole flight from the cockpit was a great idea. I learnt alot from reading it. They certainly seem to incorporate some advanced technology.

    Hey KabirT
Whats it like droping 10.000 feet? How long did it last? Whats a C-cloud formation? Drops like that scare me, I think my sanity would be forever jeopardized!!!!I have problems riding a long drop roller-coaster!!
Did the captain say what was going on, and does the plane just have to wait to come out of it or is there a way of stoping it?
Imagine being that steward stuck to the roof with everyone looking at you, hardly dignified.
