Technically a UFO has to be just outside of France not EU?

No, its absolutely genuine, I hear its the next step beyond being towed to the runway to save fuel and improve the environmental impact of aviation, I hear they’re in talks with BAA about installing a giant man at the end of each runway to throw their A380s into the sky. Its just their scale trials you’ve seen!!:diablo:

Funny you should mention BAAs plans, i just found this:

Odd that they think getting to Belfast is more important than people getting to Blackpool. I was under the impression from local tourism blurb that it was a bigger thing for people to be able to get to Blackpool than to get to Belfast from Blackpool!

The only reason I can see people wanting to visit Blackpool is because the Federation of Small Business HQ is there :p 😀 :dev2:

They should have those emergency stop handles like on trains so the passengers could see what was happening and pull it before damage occured 😀 😀

    1. Can anyone tell me how it was initially set-up?

    2. Did it have its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) or did it plan to use someone elses?

    3. Has it operated any revenue services yet? If not, are there plans for it to re-commence services anytime soon?

    1) Result of A Level Research Project

    2) Plans with Futura were finalised but due to the financial investor being put behind bars for embeselment they suffered a lack of funds shortly before scheduled service launch.

    3) Plans are afoot for a relaunch but i have been told that for the last six months

Well done to the author for giving a map to see where the action was taking placed. I thought it would help seeing the map but with all the Jet Blues i got confused too – credit to him.

At least in Flight Sim they have a big red flight number floating above the plane!

I would have expected a better level of english from international crews operating to such a big airport….

£100k was development money made up of an EU grant and the rest from the “Air Route Development Fund” which has now dried up as was a one time thing until their money ran out.

But I could see an opportunity for BMI Regional on lower volume routes from BFS – most notably Brussels, Aberdeen, Newquay, Southampton, Inverness and possibly Geneva.

SN Brussels did very well on this route previously but the attempt to rebuild the route using £100k of government money on a 12 seater never worked and wasted the £100k!!!!

    N.B. SN Brussels used a BAe 146-200

Edit – 12 Seater was two NI people trying to start an airline not SN Brussels

Its all codswallop from what i hear, reliably albeit at crew level. bmi tried BFS after ribbing from MPs (for their own gain one imagines) but gave it up as it was unprofitable.

Its just not a regional airport and hence does not suit bmi passenger whom business pax make up a large amount of their BHD route revenue. You would be hard pushed at BFS to get the 5 minutes checkin to plane for hand baggage only that can be obtained at BHD. Without running your talking 15+ minutes for BFS.

I think it’s safe to say Mr Travolta is more than likely as qualified as any other pilot to land his aircraft in an emergency! Why would he need to hand over to someone else?

    Paul

I meant if he was not at the controls as normally he only flies the begining and end of flights and has two employed pilots fly the middle bit.

I was under impression he has two pilots on a full time contract whom fly the boring bits of his flights. He does the interesting bits of landing and taking off.

I wonder if he was actually at the controls when they landed at Shannon if he was not just before emergency.

I imagine a decent SOP/CRM would say that a new pilot taking over at this stage would not be appropriate as you would have to bring them up to speed whilst turning for an emergency landing?

You know how if you leave your mobile phone near a speaker you will frequently get a signal hunting noise emitting from the speaker…well that comes through our headsets if a mobile phone is in use. I’ve never experienced navigational problems but it’s irritating having the headset noise when you’re trying to decipher Russian (etc) ATC.

Could some form of shielding be installed the cockpit bulkhead to prevent this?
