Just to illustrate the abject stupidity of the “new” rules as they are currently applied…
In the company I work for, if we travel UK domestic with a laptop as most of us HAVE to do every time on business, our domestic travel now has to be on Virgin/GNER/etc trains rather than BA or BMI because the company won’t take the risk of laptops being checked in and getting lost. We put a lot of business BMI/BA’s way, especially MAN-LHR, GLA-LHR, EDI-LHR and NCL-/MME-LHR, and typically £200 a pop MAN-LHR because its booked last minute for peak period flights.
Thing is, you have to check laptops and yet no one (especially not the airlines) will take reponsibility for guaranteeing their security in the hold or that they’ll arrive at the other end. How long before these corporate policies become widespread and shart hurting the airlines? Not long for sure – almost certainly already happening. Again, I’m not suggesting the security problem is ignorred, but someone’s got to find a better way that what we have now, and fast.
Andy
My company is equally worried but purchasing insurance for our laptops resolves the issue. We also make sure we always have back ups….
Using my sourced knowledge I can confirm it is a 738 that they’re launching with!
Doesnt have big enough ETOPS rating and keeping to rule would mean tech stops surely? Iceland/Halifax?
If there was a liquid bomb in hand luggage that is now in the hold, how is that safer?
Yes as it was said that the parts would need assembled to be detonated. So if they are by themselves it is obviously still going to be somewhat unstable (depending on what chemical properties are) but at least there is no one going to be able to get to the hold, find their bag and assemble the bomb!
Just got back off my flight from Lanzarote last night, Lanzarote airport was packed as so many flights were delayed, one was delayed 10 hours! Luckily mine was 1 hour, glad everything is okay though.
Did they restrict your hand luggage?
Maybe this could be good news for airlines? If you cant bring books etc onboard, why cant the airlines take a selection of newspapers and books to sell onboard. They could be screned before loading and could be sold with selection listed in inflight magazine.
I am hearing the government want the hand luggage ban is to be imposed for 4 weeks and thats not from a media source…. They also said they would gradually relax it but luiquids and electronics unlikely to be allowed for duration of 4 weeks. (i.e. books can be brought on)
Are the likes of flybe charging for additional hold luggage that people intended to be Hand Luggage?
Also notice that Dublin Airport is still alloying hand luggage on UK flights……
I meant more in terms of no one being allowed to be near the perimeter fence.
Is there not a PanAm spoof by a comedian of a Leeds route or something?
Ummm…James, I am not sure. Whilst it does look very dodgy indeed, according to their website they have a head office is based in a prime Central London location. I have checked out the Companies House website to see what it says, and the company does exist as ‘Esperia Limited’, was registered on the 08/07/2005, and the address does match the website’s address, but who knows…
Their Companies House registered address does not have to be their HQ address. It is simply the address the companies house communicate with them via. If it is not their Head Office address, usually it will be someone like an accountants etc.
Does anyone remember the whole “skybus” thing? This reminds me of it alot!
Does anyone think eos, maxjet etc will look to B787 as a replacement model?
The point being your cursing all the 757’s 😀 :diablo:
and thats a bad thing? :diablo:
Didnt one loose an engine on takeoff which was found in a street?? Or did it crash as part of loosing engine thing?
Miami rings a bell…
Elgan,
Odd I can remember Mark James Iain and myself walking past a Blackpool checkin queue beside the very annoyed BCN pax last Friday evening!
