    London Heathrow (In particular, Terminal 3) What annoyes me most about this airport/terminal especially is the the fact that you cannot seem to see what’s going on airside until you get to the gate. There are no windows to look out of, and with the majority of the flights being long haul and passengers being required to check-in several hours before departure, its quite boring, spending so much time in the departure lounge with not very much to do.

    Also, the terminal always seems to be under construction.

    Bangkok (Terminal 1) I’ve been to plenty of other airports, but the facilities at Bangkok were good. Check-in is always swift and they have security procedures in place that other airports don’t, just to speed up the check-in process. Once in departures, there are lots of shops (very cheap duty free cigarettes and alcohol, cheaper than anywhere else I’ve been) and there are telephones throughout the terminal where you can make free local calls. Doesn’t sound like much, but it amazed me.

    Security checks at the airport are the best I’ve seen. You pass through two security checks. Once on your way to the departure gate and a second time at the gate where your bags are not-so-thoroughly checked by hand and passengers are also given a handheld metal detector test.

    I logged onto etihadairways.com earlier this afternoon and was pleasantly suprised by what I saw. They appear to offer a very above average service at a bargain price. Seat pitch is said to be “generous”, but there is not an actual figure, PTVs complete with 6 television channels to choose from, 11 audio channels and an assortment of meals and fine wines to choose from. Of course, all included in the price.

    Their fleet currently stands at two Airbus A330-200s and an A340-300(?). So, unlike similar airlines, like Qatar for example, you’re flying on something new all the way. My parents flew Qatar to Bangkok last year and loved the LHR-DOH flights but from DOH-BKK it was all a bit cheap ‘n’ nasty because the A300 they were on, offered little in the way of entertainment.

    As I said above, the family has changed their mind because it is the rainiest month of the year. However, I’m still considering it.

    The prices (I’m sure you’ll all agree) are unbelievable:

    * 10 nights flying with Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi = £499
    * 20 nights flying with Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi = £588

    Based on departures between 1st and 20th September 2004.

    Pretty special! And we’ve stayed at the 4* Hotel many times now, so we know what to expect.

    Anyway, jesting aside, I’ve not heard much about Etihad. Though they seemd to be reliable.

    Looks like September is possibly the worst time to travel. Although temperatures are high, it’s the peak of the rainy season. I’m not giving up that easily though. I’ll go alone if I have to! 😀

    We’re also getting information for our next 4 week trip in March again. Flying with the one… the only… Thai Airways International… Yippee!

    Do you think those people are genuinely being blown into the sea and up onto the rocks, or are they just over-reacting a little?

    Great video anyway! First time I’ve been able to view something like this after getting my “not so reliable” ntl broadband last week!

    I think the only way to get to BHX from down here is by train (eurgh..). I don’t think anyone flies up there do they? It’s only 100-and-a-bit miles.

    Talking of matters Glaswegian……

    I’ll be in Glasgow next Wednesday and Thursday evenings. What can I expect to see if I visit the place at about 6:00 – 6:30ish?

    I’m no expert, since I’ve only visited once, but I’d guess at a flybe. Dash 8-Q400, perhaps a bmi A321 and if you’re lucky a Loganair/British Airways DHC6. :p

    I’m sure most the decent stuff is much earlier in the day.

    Glasgow seems quite a friendly place.

    First airport I’ve ever known where people approach you and have a chat about the movements. You never see that down here at Heathrow!

    go on msn’s the zone and go 2 flight sim join on eof the games and the orginiser will give a adress that has to be typed into multiplayer on flightsim then everything is ready you just have to chose a a/c and get to the airport

    That was slightly confusing :confused:

    I tried FS2000 online last night and it seems quite straightforward.

    1. Go to http://zone.msn.com/

    2. Sign in using your MSN Passport Account (assuming you have one)

    3. Click on the CD-ROM tab at the top of the page that will load.

    4. Locate FS2004 (or an alternative FS version) from the list.

    5. Download the small add-on that is required.

    6. Either join an existing session or host your own.

    Once you launch a game or join an existing session, other e-Pilots should be flying around somewhere, if that makes any sense?

    The latest news from the modelling world..

    Seems the guy that sold the United 747-100 on ebay for £4.04 was ripping me (and others) off. He has taken money from about 10 ebay buyers, but failed to dispatch the items. It’s been well over 3 weeks now, so I doubt I’m going to see it!

    Was also re-arranging my models the other day, when my 1/500 China Airlines 747-400 decided to taxi off of the shelf and plunged straight into the bin. Needless to say, it broke, but it’s just about finished in the maintenance hangar and will be good as new quite soon!
