What a great idea – I was recently made employee of the season in my part time job. I get £150 for being the best (!!) and my name on a plaque. Having my name on an aircraft sounds even better though!

The worst airport has to be Heathrow. It never seems to have been completed. One bit of work gets finished and another load gets started! In November, terminal 3 was a building site and there was no ceiling, wires hanging about everywhere it was just planks of wood for floors.

I’ve flown out of terminal 1 and terminal 3 and will fly out terminal 3 again in July. The shops in the terminal seem to be there to please the upper class with the absolutely ridiculously priced “Duty Free” shops. Not a patch on Gatwick Airport!

La Romana in the Dominican Republic isn’t the worst going but it’s not the best either. With one flight every hour or so, it’s pretty dead at all times of the day. It has about 3 gates which are merged together, along with the departure lounge, security and check-in (just about). It has a fast food restaurant and a duty free shop. When you have to check in 3 hours before departure, it’s incredibly boring. Nothing to see and nothing to do either, but it’s clean, unlike some other airports I’ve been to.

I “borrowed” that photo off of the internet, it was taken the month after we were there! But while we were there it was absolutely perfect weather!

I do like Gatwick. I recently experienced my first North Terminal flight for a very long time. It’s not a bad terminal although not a patch on the South Terminal where everything is slightly more compact. We are more frequent visitors to Gatwick South.

I seem to be flying out of Heathrow more and more these days – terminal 1 and terminal 3. I have to say, I hate terminal 3 immensely. It is aimed at the upper class shop-wise with all these incredibly expensive jewellry shops and seafood bars – so not my style! :p

Talking of 747SPs, one flew overhead yesterday, I know that for sure. It was obviously going to Heathrow but I couldn’t identify the airline. Who could it have been? :confused:

It’s going to be one big bird!

I can just imagine safety demonstrations on the aircraft: “This aircraft has 18 emergency exits…” Will be exciting to see it in the flesh.

I may be wrong, but I was sure that Concorde wasn’t allowed to at supersonic speeds over land. Even if it did fly LHR-SYD, it wouldn’t really be a great deal quicker with the land which is flown over.

I think we have the Wright Brothers to thank for what I believe is the greatest invention of all time. Their ideas have been built upon and we now have a variety of flying machines which can destroy, carry passengers/cargo and even fly themselves.

But, for me, it is important if photos are jumbled up:

We wouldn’t want someone new to aviation learning that a Boeing 747 was actually an ATR72 – the same example as you gave, someone that had never been the airports concerned.

Anyway, enough of that, welcome to the forum!

I would imagine that flying at Christmas with already-brilliant airlines will be fantastic. Isn’t this like you see in the movies where all the cabin staff wear festive hats and there are Christmas trees everywhere? :p

An extract from my flight report with United in November 2002

On N774UA, the Boeing 777-200, seats H and J in rows 17, 18 and 19 are not used by the passengers:

These seats are in fact the crew rest area and do not have fold-a-way tables or seatback TVs and are seperated from the rest of the economy cabin by a large curtain which pulls round to give darkness, allowing them to sleep.

Not only do we seem to agree that the performance of a 777 compared to an A340 is far greater, but most importantly – the way they look are also very different. The A340-600 for example is ridiculously long. I came back from London by train yesterday and saw one approaching Heathrow (Virgin) and wasn’t at all keen.
