    RE: Apron Security

The airline which left the cockpit open and unattended was named, I think it was a lo-cost jobby, but I’ll dig the article out some time.

I feel the period of time over which this was carried is not relevant to the actual reliability of the results. Even if it was carried out over a year or two, it shouldn’t be happening at all. Passengers should have the right to feel safe and cannot do so if what happens behind the scenes is wrong.

    Apron Security

**Copied from a topic by Mongu**

Apologies – I tried to post this as a respone rather than a new topic but the browser was being awkward.
Typical lack of journalistic objectivity I think:

    1. Exactly how long and how hard did the reporter work in order to “stumble” into these security lapses?

    2. The inference is slightly misleading. The odd, rare, security lapse does not benefit hijackers or terrorists as in order for this to happen such things would need to be predetermined.

    3. I actually missed the article – were any comparatives quoted?

    4. I assume the airport was named but the airline was not. If the reporter is being truthful, why not? There is no danger of defending a suit if the assertions can be corobborated.

    5. In all honesty, the report is hearsay and nothing more.

    6. It is not clear what is being used as a yardstick hence it is difficult to determine if the results of the “investigation” are materially acceptable or not.

    7. How were the sample targets selected. Was it purely at random (it should have been) or did the reporter hear something – maybe from a disgruntled employee?

Any comments in relation to the above, people?

    RE: Apology

I’m really sorry but it is not a VC10… thanks for noticing rdc100! It is in fact an Il-62, I kind of confused myself! 🙂

Looks like you’re finding it a bit of a challenge, so I’ll tell you, it’s a Il-62 Cubana aircraft taken last August in Gran Canaria.

The actual full size photo can be viewed at http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=220335

Sorry for the mess-up and there’ll be more coming soon… hopefully with the right information!

Crikey…!! You cannot be defeated by this one… it is so relevant to a particular topic going on at the moment! You got the aircraft as a VC10, but it’s not BOAC or Ghana Airways… anyone want another bash?

Looks like you zoomed in on a pic to focus on that in the background? Is that why it’s a bit blurred?

But there is nothing to stop us adding our own pics.

    RE: Small Challenge #2

indeedy, it is the tail of a VC10 but I figured that by changing the photograph this much it would be fairly hard for someone to spot the airline… any ideas?

    RE: How safe is Cubana?

I still think it is crazy how we can call airlines the unsafest in the skies. I can’t remember who said it, but someone did say that you do not base an airline’s reputation or it’s safety on how many crashes there have been. Pilot error is acceptable as making an airline unsafe as you may question how long the pilot had been flying that particular aircraft for that particular airline.

Other errors which may results in the loss of life cannot be included to name an airline as unsafe. If an engine catches fire upon takeoff for example (i.e. AF Concorde), it is not the airline at fault and so is not fair to call the airline unsafe. Unless of course it is an error with something that the Captain should have spotted prior to taking the flight.

Korean have definitely scored high in my book of unsafe airlines, but it’s a dreadful shame to call an airline ‘the unsafest’.

We might get travellers visiting this website who want to read a review of their airline for example and when they read that it is the unsafest airline in the skies (or in the world), they are are going to be horrified and we have no proof whatsoever. We should investigate Korean/Cubana and look into air crashes, fatalities, errors responsibile for the crash etc. Let’s not just look at how many air crashes each of these airlines has had but other factors because it’s not just the figures that count!

This term ‘well-trained pilots’ for Korean Air? I can only hope for the benefit of the passengers who fly with them that their pilots are well trained. Surely, every airline’s pilots are well-trained!

Goo one. Sorry to spoil it, but I go a strange feeling it’s a JMC 757. I’ll kill myself if I’m wrong…!!

I can’t see how a shorter link makes it easier to access the page because after all, they do go to the same page!
