Seriously? SDD is the main development program while FOD is what follows it in terms of making sure the aircraft is kept upgraded as was planned from its inception.

The multiple block upgrades were planned all along regardless of X number of years delay in SDD completion. There was always supposed to be a hardware upgrade every other block followed by software updates. This was how the program was created.

Weren’t – apart of SATCOM- capabilities that were originally scheduled for block 3F and SDD completion now scheduled for block 4? I may be wrong of course, but what is now called modernization wasn’t originally scheduled in SDD? i’d be genuinely interested in comparing original and today’s cpability schemes of standards.

At Tomcat vup, idfc your opinion about me please stop calling out to me, i can live without (and i’ve already been married once, thank you but it is a NO). And no use citing Rafale F1, you know perfectly they never were considered as anything but emergency stop gap solution. (like F-35 block 3F? kidding you).

Note : i did not attack the plane, but the program’s management. (eg. Testing partially a software before updating an untested part is simply criminal imho. Well that’s what i understood was done, might be wrong). All in all, what i meant is implementing capabilities originally scheduled for FOC in JORD and calling it a modernization is a smoke screen not to clearly say “we are so late that we will implement FOC without expected (contractual?) capabilities…

Nope.. FOC will be reached at Block 3F levels and does not require Block 4+ updates.

    SDD?

Or whatever it is named. When will it reach initial specifications? Block 4 no? This FOC block 3F really look like a smoke screen… Basically now they will “modernize” an airplane in order to reach its specifications? Is it a joke? Looks like they try to present what should have been part of initial capabilities as modernizations instead of “not attained defined standard capability”. Maybe my english isn’t clear (tired), but i’m sure you get my point.

“Modernization” to reach FOC Sdd???? This program management will ever mesmerize me.

Well i got an Airbus friend working in China with fairly good contacts with PLAAF officers, he also states these are rumours, but seems to trust them.

France does not have budget let alone claiming bigger. France can’t sell Airbus without US permission. You don’t own anything.

Hehe can you sell superjets without french authorization? No! Engines etc are french…

    2017 budget : 41 billion euros.

That is funny you wrote that, I was reading that article earlier. A couple of clarifications:

DDM-NG has the inherent capability to provide tracking function (apart from missile warning, where the missile came from and direction to employ countermeasures) as any staring IR MAWS with sufficient resolution/FoV would, but the article stops short of saying it would provide hostile target tracking for aircraft. Only that:
According to MBDA. Your commentary suggests that there is more functionality, with qualifiers. I am curious if there was more discussion”off the record” that led to those conclusions, or that was the impression you got.

Second, due to it’s drop in integration with SPECTRA, does that means that video feed is not shared? In essence, Spectra provides the mission computers with data of where a target is but not the imaging?

Lastly, the article leads the reader to believe that (like DAS) many of the functions (classification, hostile ground fire detection) are possible with software upgrades due to the FoV and resolution but unlike DAS assigning target tracks and fusing target information with other sensors is not possible as of yet?

Yes there were discussions off the record. Eg. A whole part of the article was deleted (identification of sensor involved and analysis of the wavebands used ; and therefore the heat it is optimized for… ). On the other hand it allowed me to get official confirmations. :

Il participe directement aux capacités de détection, d’identification et de ciblage du Rafale.

    .

DDM-NG HAD to be plug and play replacement of DDM. Therefore its full spectrum of capabilities is not used on present production planes. Accidentally i asked to a Istres test pilot about displaying of DDM-NG 3 days ago, he answered me that DDM-NG images were classified. Afaik the only two released are the ones posted in the article. It is fairly difficult to get good infos about Rafale evolutions, DGA is very secrecive.

Vianney Riler Jr confirmed me that IR channel was involved in his 6o’clock shot. But one should take in account that he was flying B-301 in Istres, experimental Rafale for future technology. And disposed of an evolution of SPECTRA. Spectra 5T will be implemented on F3R standard. And will allow a much wider use of DDM-NG. Atm, informations from DDM-NG are fused to other plane sensors, but i don’t think it can really track by itself a target (imprecision of my previous post)

Real step ahead will come with F3R , spectra 5T…(unpublicizly F3R ismostly focused on networking, IFDL, directional Satcom, SDR etc.) and tragedac (intraflight sharing datas between passive sensors).

Thx for reading our website 😉

Gripen is made of majority of US/UK parts who are outside Eurozone. if EU is serious about developing its military capability it will simply cutoff funding for countries buying such products. its matter of survival for EU. the lack of military power has depreciated Euro from 1.5 to 1.05 to dollar in two years. otherwise at some point Middleastern investors will lose confidence in EU and currency will collapse.

JSR you are hilarious. In 2017, France defense budget will be ahead of russian one…

    Um.. no you can’t.

If they could, they would claim it as a feature.

When i researched for this article, i contacted Jean Dupont at MBDA for confirmation… http://www.portail-aviation.com/2014/02/exclusif-le-ddm-ng-un-detecteur-de_8513.html

In fact they were bothered but confirmed it.

    how?

ONLY MAW that can track enemy aircraft at long ranges with IRST capabilities.

    DDM-NG do also, sorry.

Nope, I was just clarifying the cause since most other places (ie twitter, Facebook, the source site, etc) are bitching about “OMG the F-35 can’t fly in bad weather, dark, etc”. I was just trying to nip it in the bud before it started here.

My bad for not being more specific.

Np for me. But tbh it is embarassing to see Azhton Carter and Israeli officials waiting…
