To a limited extend. It’s mainly the dogfighting performance that benefits. Hence the main argument for the AMK is the easier weapons integration especially wrt heavy stores, asymetric loadouts and loadout diversity to a lesser extend. It’s also believed that these changes might be necessary to integrate CFTs. The current CFT design looks distinctly different to the one known from the various mock-ups and renders. It’s in a nutshell sleaker, whether it will stay that way is yet another question.

    excelent news for eft program.

In this case it seems me they keep on using their usual trick of comparing the F-35 to their own legacy aircraft i.e. items introduced in service in the late eighties and that, almost in USAF case were last acquired during Bush senior presidency.
So they can sell as out-of this world innovation some things that others (i.e. We and Russian) has used for some decades now, like IRST or off-boresight missiles.
Let’s add also the habit to take for granted some features that has still a long way to be developed or hasn’t still proved their practical utility, see x-ray vision and generally DAS.
Inthis case F-35 is really innovative for USAF but only because it finally features (at the greatest technological level possible, I eagerly concede) some capabilities that have not been implemented at all in the meanwhile they were all focused/fixated on getting just the maximum stealth level possible.

    something like this?

1-RWR doesn’t have resolution to track such target. a 5 degree mistake would totally be unimportant for early warning, but even at realistic BVR range of 50 km, such mistake would cost 4,3 km mislead.
2-RWR doesn’t have continuity. electronic scanning array signals are random short beams, a RWR detecting a signal may not recieve signal for several seconds, and second signal may come at different frequency. It is impossible to keep track of which radar is pinging the RWR at any time. Any radar appears close in line of sight could be mistaken as the other one. It would need tremendous resolution (back to #1) and processing power which aircraft doesn’t have.

Pure BS disminish to 0.5 °. At least. ever heard about phae shifting?

ok so basically what you saying is Dassault inflated ( out right lying) about Rafale’s combat radius? and not just a bit, alot
they claimed Rafale can have combat radius of 1000 nm for strike mission with heavy bombs and missiles, but in test the Rafale can only achieved 920 nm with 3 massive fuel tank and only air to air missiles ( and the mission profile involved take off, cruise in optimum altitude to target and come back)

Not massive fuel tanks , 3 supersonic fuel tanks. (1200L vs 2000L)

[QUOTE=mig-31bm;2239777]the graph and comparison is from Rafale themselves, not from competitors , it was anti air mission radius , with 3 large fuel tanks and 6 aam, what you are trying to tell me is that Dassault purposely reduced their range by 200 nm while keeping competitors ( Ex Boeing) range the same? ( if they are so confident why they cut off 1 EFT from Gripen NG then?) , or are you trying to tell me Rafale suddenly become more aerodynamic when it carry extra AASM that it will have 200 nm bonus range?
    http://forum.keypublishing.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=223986
Nevertheless, we see what the effect on Gripen NG combat radius with one of it’s EFT cut off, what if we strip it off all the EFTs so that it have the Wing loading, T/W , supercruise speed and RCS that we often used to compare with F-35? how much (%) internal fuel that F-35 will need to carry to match Rafale, Gripen, Typhoon or F-18E/F range ( if all of them carry 100% internal fuel and no EFT? ) what would be their respective T/W, wingloading then?[/QUOTE
The first graph isn’t from Dasault but from Defesanet test pilot.

the data from boeing and LM actually similar ( if you look at F-18 range, LM is about 10 nm generous to the F-18 there) , it safe to assumed they used the same mission profile
in that same mission profile the Rafale have 896 nautical miles range, F-18/A have 816 nautical miles range, F-35 have 751 nautical miles range, Eurofighter have 747 nautical miles range, Su-30MKI have 728 nautical miles range, Gripen have 502 nautical miles range
, all but the F-35 and su-30 were carry 3 EFT ( remember that F-35 in comparison have end-of-life engine performance with 5 percent degradation in fuel economy and 2 percent in thrust.)

mission profile, combat time, loiter time

just type defesanet rafale range (independent testers) you may find some interesting images. Fed up posting them.

F-35 on internal fuel can reached around the same distance that rafale, Typhoon, F-18, Gripen would need 3 EFT,

Prove that please, i guess we are going to have fun…

F-35 can reach around the same range that Typhoon, rafale, f-18, Gripen reached when F-35 only carry internal fuel and the other 3 carry around 3 EFT,
thus it wouldn’t be far fetched to say F-35 will have similar or even better T/W compared to Typhoon, Rafale, F-18, f-16 if you fueled them to fly the same distance

:highly_amused: check JSF presentation to norwegian AF for ex? Pitiful range

I don’t believe it either. I cannot imagine that French would be as dumb as to get into a BVR fight where the ALR-94 could pick up the emissions from the RBE2, while at the same time their SPECTRA had no possibility to pick up the APG-77, in return.. No one is that stupid, IMHO…

Sory, but these very pilots sais we would have liked to try, but F-22 data are too sensitive.

UAVs aren’t allowed to fly in shared air space, “because it’s unsafe”. talk about hypocrisy
once they get automated avoidance systems, they’ll be much safer than any manned aircraft

    some already have….

Wait a second. Availability should be defined versus operational contract. (training, QRA and opex mostly, i’m simplifying). In the ed the idea of an airforce is (a) to “polish” the working hours between planes(so that their potential is homogenous, despite eg extensive use during opex) (b) to “polish” pilots trainings etc. This lead to weird conclusions where perfectly operational aircrafts are unused/canibalized so as to balance their use. Dunno if i was clear?

USAF most modern F-16 is F-16CJ block 52
most modern F-15 is F-15C ‘Golden Eagles
both F-16 and F-15 are upgraded alot through their career

F-22 fought Rafale and Eurofighter in exercise as well, and still win, at least in BVR

There was no BVR fight with Rafale AFAIK

so , selex would have very expansive upgrade to get new partner !

One little thing about off boresight wvr missiles! I hope nobody belives that u can shoot ann enemy plane chasing you with it when the plane is behind to/nearly besides you. When u fire a missile off boresight on target chasing you, it have to turn more than 90 degres at the start of burn, and then target in on enemy plane at behind. The missile has same speed as plane at start, have to turn so much that it loses almost all speed for manovering, and will almost always miss an chasing plane. To short time for burn to get to the missile to manovering speed.

On the other hand, fireing wvr missile off bore sight when u meet a plane, and after meeting increase distance to you, then I belive a offboresight missile can do its jobb. Longer burntime to target, and it will get upp to/past manovering speed.
    Sorry for bad english

Tell that to test pilot Vianney Riller Jr…

As it is Ramadan till 18th of july, do not expect orders from middle east. AESA production order reamins only logical answer.
