It would be interesting to know what those six missions were, and the criteria for success. Of course this is the nation where the defense minister went to work for LockMart’s PR company and serving officers use LM charts in their conference briefs.
Absolutely, and the same nation that did NOT ask access to classified information in order to judge competitors…
One should take into account that CFTs are affecting the extrados, not always the best thing to do…
You are confusing a single de-cluttered display with the sensors working together (what the F-35 program calls “Sensor Fusion”). Take a look at the two slides I provided and you will see that while their end product looks similar, how that data got there and how much the pilot was involved varies greatly.
I was watching a vid of the F-35 Simulator where the pilot commented that by default the F-35’s display does not tell him which sensor produced the track because it’s a group product, not the result of a single sensor (although it can be).
Let us disagree on that point, ok? I have looked at the slides, and talked to some pilots. What is described is nice, but exactly what is doing Rafale’s MDPU. Believe it or not.
Didn’t the big Euros went in production well after the legacy fighters ? Isn’t it expected that their software architecture is more mature, more advanced, more in line with future needs ?
What is not normal is that one of the program had some tremendous difficulties to be fully reliable, down-to the point that the huge deficiencies have rendered it ineffective as a whole (TrI)
Both have failed to secure a decade of exclusive performances due to program delays, MLU of legacy platform (16-60
/15K) or dissemination of tech. In 5 years, when the 35s (the Su and the F) will be out in numbers, what will be left as exclusive to the Raf or the Typhoon?Nothing (or nearly nothing).
LM could build a super16 that will outpace many of the perfs of b
i dont deny that big Euros went into production well after legacy. I just wanted to put things back in their context. F35 brings more LO than Eurocanards, good, but sensor fusion it is not a “revolution” as compared to them . It is as compared to US MLUs.
No more no less.
For the rest, we will see…
Eg take a look…

Erm… again, the question is… What does it do that sets it apart?
The EF-T, Gripen and Rafale all present one unified picture of the battlefield. I’m not sure about the Su-35… no-one knows about the PAK-FA and J-20/31.
Yes, it has more sensors in the form of DAS etc, which require more parameters to be processed by the system and its AESA can probably produce some slightly more refined data with more parameters that require analysis than the competition…
It adds the niche capability of HMS tracking through the airframe… (and I’m not even totally sure thats entirely unique to be honest).
Its an evolutionary step above in some aspects. Not a “game-changer” or “paradigm shift” in air combat.
It is a paradigm shift as compared to legacy US fighters.
I’m tempted to say “as usual”…Sry to German friends, but it is becoming a recurrent behavior (A400M etc.)

It’s not just raw processing power, but what it collects, how it collects it, how it processes it, and how it shares it that sets the F-35 apart.

Explain exactly how please? (apart from the see through the plane capability)
The Governments of the United Kingdom (UKG) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have now agreed price escalation terms relating to the Typhoon aircraft under the Salam programme
Well….
he F-22, when it was produced, was flying with computers that were already so out of date you would not find them in a kid’s game console in somebody’s home gaming system.
Gen. Michael Hostage, head of Air Combat Command
What is inherent to Gen 5 is “stealth”, not ID capability. Please think out of US context.
This is one of those things I find completely hard to swallow. I’m not going to sit and yell that the AN/ASQ-239 is so much more advanced than S
Sincerely, F35 will have some unique capabilities (like see through) and certainly an excellent data fusion system. But claiming that the capability to fuse data from diverse sensors so as to generate a track a single sensor wouldn’t be able to as “unique” make me think about Steve Jobs claiming Iphone 5 is a revolution….
Could anyone make a listing of the patents cited here? Would help!
Yeah, instead the pilot will have to crank their head around to see whats behind them and then continue to maintain the spatial awareness to fly the aircraft.
How well did that (very) reclined seat work on the F-16? It worked so well they decided to abandon it for all subsequent aircraft.
It has its uses, certainly yes. A paradigm shift in air combat? Ha. Barely a ripple. Its a niche.
So pilot will have to turn their head 180° to see whats behind on their HMS???

Not to mention DDM NG
And DAmocles/Reco nG pods, aswell as mica sensors and JTAC vectorial data sent to Rafale via SCARABEE system…. All are fused
