Honestly, how many fighters were succesfully navalized???
Rafale: 10.0 –> 8.0 billion USD for 36 fighters, 16,500 USD operating cost per flight hour.
F/A-18E/F: 7.5 billion USD for 36 fighters, 11,000 USD operating cost per flight hour.
Gripen NG: 6.0 –> 4.5 billion USD for 36 fighters, 5,000 to 7,000 USD operating cost per flight hour.
I think Gripen NG is the most reasonable choice for Brazil with economic crisis and poverty problem in the foreseeable future, and the only thing that I’m a little surprised is that Dilma Rousseff can make this decision so determined and quickly without any further delay to 2015.
Wont discuss some of the numbers, just one : opch about Rafale is wrong (14000 in Mali)
Seems its over in UAE, but it could be another move like they did for RAfale 2 years ago…

Hardly…
They’re still sought after in the Middle East where there’s potential serious threats, India/far east, South America, Australia and they’re still being delivered to European nations. Russia, China and the US are still producing these so-called “4.5 Generation” fighters in large quantities. One would hardly call that “bleak”.
As one pretty much said elsewhere, this “Generation” thing is rather overestimated.
Good popularization article imho…
Doh… Good luck to Gripen anw

They even quoted 140 million dollars price tag for Rafale and 70 for Gripen E…
About Rafale’s look…

you are not wrong

Rafale is roughly 25% (flywaya cost) more expensive then F18 E/F (cant quote data, sorry). But cheaper on operational costs (again cqnt quote)
One should notice that the US ship was quite close to Liao Ning?
I’m lost after several pages of argument, please spuman could you link again what you are talking about? TY
The American preference for Gripen is definitely more than just business — it’s about future leverage, and denying the interests of a strategic competitor. No doubt France would prefer Gripen over Super Hornet for Brazil also, for mostly the same reasons.
The question for Brazil, of course, is where its interests lie.
@toan: don’t feed the troll.
Absolutely, and it is not the first time we have reports about US actively campaigning against Rafale. (and no i’m not conspirationist)
Rest assured that they were briefed on the classified stuff from all parties.
Well, in fact no, they werent, they assessed capabilities of other aircrafts from open sources…
Anglo-French-UCAV-development-takes-step-forward
That is a bit steep!
You basically dismiss the professionalism and capability of what is considered one of the best airforces in the world…
These simulations are not some crappy software on a laptop with a Logitech flightstick attached to it.
Airforces make their decisions amd base their purchases on it.It recently came to my attention that the Dutch also set up a simulation for both the Saab and LM consortiums.
It was mentioned on a documentary on TV. I never heard of that and have no hard data to back it up, other than what the reporters claim.
F-35 and Gripen NG were both ordered to take out a SAM installation on a square in the heart of The Hague in a manned simulation.F-35 came almost on top of that installation and destroyed it with a LGB.
Gripen used a different approach. The decided to use 3 planes.
The planes launched their long-rang weapons at a much greater distance.
They too destroyed the installation.
But they also took out the ministry of defence…
Lol.According to the documentary, it was the reason Gripen failed the test and lost the competition.
Even with 3 planes it could not get close enough to be precise enough to avoid collateral damage.
This is were stealth comes into play.
If both planes are not operational yet, simulation is the ONLY way to go ahead.
According to dutch air force report, there wasn’t so much difference with Rafale F3… And that was before several specs downgrading…
