Doubtful this version will ever birth… Only possible customer would be Brazil. And developing a maritime verion from scratch is costly and very difficult
It would have been a great add on to enlarge some unsexy domains like release of heavy weapons under high G etc. imho (and not only mine).
The whole planning is to be revised in 2015. Talked recently about that with Dassaultexecutive, government still stick (and agree) to 11/year, whatever export orders, it is considered as minimum to keep production line in service.
Hehe, Rafale cousin?
To be precise, 11 aircraft/year is contractual on present order. The delayed delivery schedule is intended “taking into account of export prospects”, french gov already did that in 2008 (expecting brazilian order…). If no export order comes, gov will have to stick to 11/year. It has several advantages for french government :
– Evidently delay payments in time of budget restrictions.
– Delay order so as to get as many as possible F3R standard (2018) without having to retrofit. (lets call them tranche 5 for the sake of discussion)
– Delay so as to get Rafale MLU to replace 2000D and few 2000 5-F to be modernized during incoming years. (speculation from me)
i love the part “google” on a prototype. Btw software isnt ready afaik. 3D thrust vectoring was originally planned asa Tranche 3 implementation, but lack of money… Which is a pity, it would have been a perfect add on to Typhoon aerodynamic formula (long arm moment canards)
Front landing gear is under air intakes good luck for reinforcing that (possible, but expensive), + all softwares to land on a deck + materials etc that must be resistent to corrosion + etc.
Possible? No doubt. Realistic? No. Considered by indian navy? In his dreams. And damn costly!
The “check your sources part is really funny, a classic 😉

Talked with an ex engineer on Typhoon recently. Very prliminary studies were made, no more. Unrealistic. (over costly, no customer etc.). Link plz?
New DoD report
http://www.dodig.mil/pubs/report_summary.cfm?id=5339
We concluded that Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company and its subcontractors did not follow disciplined AS9100 Quality Management System practices, as evidenced by 363 findings, which contained 719 issues. Identified issues could adversely affect aircraft performance, reliability, maintainability, and ultimately program cost.
Management Comments and Our Responses
The F-35 Joint Program Office and the Defense Contract Management Agency commented on the draft report on August 23, 2013. However, we disagree with 7 of 13 of the responses to the recommendations, therefore the DoDIG is requesting additional response to the final report.
..and if I were a “humourist” (I think the word you are looking for is “troll.”) I would point out that Dassault just delivered its first Rafale equipped with an AESA… and that at the rate it is delivering said planes it will take another two years of production to equip one single squadron with such. (Assuming a squadron at ~20 jets plus a few spares.) Or we could talk about helmet mounted sights… or towed decoys…
Well… Ahem. There will not be any AESA Sqd… Because RBE2AESA will be spammed upon Sqds. In a way you are absolutely true, France do not have enough money to entertain full AESA Sqds. Oh and btw there will be towed decoys on indain Rafales, AdlA do not want them and went to LEA program. Ooops forgot, HMS scheduled for Rafale MLU which wont be much further F35 FOC. … Still awaiting something like that…

Every so called “4th gen” fighters are sharpening their claws , and eagerly awaiting competition vs F35, future will tell us. Oh btw did you ever hear about smthing called MICA NG?
Funny how such a simple sentence heated up some ppl… And funny how they talk about meteor the same way F35 skeptics talk about F35…
So what do we have in the end? Elusive manouvers prediction, certainty of identification, datalinks etc.
If i was a humourist i would pont that the shoot behind via datalink (3rd pary targeting) capability of sidewinder 9X has been shown many years ago on mica.
Not to take in account capabilities revealed by Vianney Riller JR on defesanet which F35 is years behind….
Btw i’m fully aware that F35 will have capabilities Rafale do not.
End of WE, will be more serious next week 😉
Dummy one.
Integration of Meteor would mean death of AMRAAM program…
WE is time for bad boys i guess 😉
