Alternative Helmet development stopped by DoD, satisfied with Rockwell Collins progress. Due to competition, cost dropped 12%

The study was never published by Jane’s, it is a limited study (those words are present in the original document) commissioned by SAAB for SAAB.
Jane’s people arent clowns, so the values they give are more or less exact (depending on estimations) using the criteria they chose. Everything is in the choice of criteria. So it is a valuable study, but limited to some extent.
Oh btw a study is done at a precise moment, as logistics etc. evolve during a program.

Length of the process is the very reason for Dassult proposed to deliver first 18 Rafales on a separate contract.

Honestly BIO, yes, omnirole is a buzz word. The origin of the word was as opposed to multirole as the Rafale didnt need any reconfiguration between different missions. Point is we are used to incremental evolutions of air planes while F35 is wanting to deliver (too fast?) everything from the start. Ans dubious about that (it seems unreasonable)

LOL The Rafale is much more capable than the Typhoon in that regard. Nonetheless, even the Rafale doesn’t match the F-35. Especially, with the computing power or the comprehensive fusion of all of the sensor in one combined picture under all flight conditions.

    Any clue about that?

Well, what fighter has anything even remotely close to the Situational Awareness of the F-35??? Do tell…..

Eurocanards generally speaking, new version of F18, i dont know enough about russian planes to argue.

Well, Situational Awareness is one of the most important factors in Aerial Combat. Yet, to answer your question I think it’s come to the forefront now. Because no platform as ever come close to merging several sensors together in one comprehensive picture like the F-35. Which, will give it true “Situational Awareness” for the first time in Modern Warfare. (or as Lockheed Martin says ‘Sensor Fusion”)

Although i agree on situational awareness importance AND on F35 excellent capabilities in that domain, you have simply no clue about other platforms… And sensor fusion is far from being a Lockheed wording…

Yes. There were some nice successful trials vs short to medium range baliistics last year. There are/will be some ASTER also on FREMMs

GaN isnt a french idea, but first flying GaN antennas (spectra prototype) on a fighter (2014) are.
Its not only the antenna, its also very similar concepts apart from size between the two planes.

    3. I think the practical GaN AESA radar technology for Rafale shall not be ready before 2025.

Agree, but Incas derived new spectra GaN antennas flying next year.

Wondering if french gov is counting the first 10 retrofitted MN Rafales (which join the prod chain at a moment or another) into the 11/year?
