    More versatile, certainly, but a really poor sub-hunter. AFAIR a competition in SE Asia, it tooks 2hours to P3 to find a sub contenders had found in ten mins… Needed a phone call from white house to sell them…

    Nope, personal communication “off” from a Dassault executive only. They proposed a double contract so as to hurry the process, and india declined, which is perfectly understandable. Not really an issue.

    No obligatory, 2017 is not the year where production is scheduled to stop, but deliveries to french air force there are still 30+ planes on order, and extended life M2k-5 and modernized M2k D will have to be replaced. (and minister agreed on contractual 11/year)

    Concerns Rise As Indian Fighter Negotiations Drag On

    NEW DELHI — India’s Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contract with Dassault Aviation is not likely to be signed before April 2014, despite the Indian air force’s (IAF) concerns about maintaining its tactical air deterrent capability.

    According to a defense ministry official, with national elections expected sometime in April, it is highly unlikely the multi-billion-dollar contract to buy 126 Rafale fighters will be concluded during India’s current fiscal year, which ends March 31. The program is India’s biggest-ever defense acquisition.

    MMRCA Deal By March 2014: IAF Deputy Chief

    The MMRCA fighter deal will be signed within this financial year, Air Marshal S. Sukumar, Deputy Chief of Air Staff has said today. He was speaking at the 8th International Conference on Energising Indian Aerospace Conference jointly organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, Indian Air Force & Centre for Air Power Studies in New Delhi.

    Interesting is “will be” not anymore “should be”

    . Or have fun? Wait… Where is located front landing gear? (reinforce heavily air intakes) oops and main landing gear (far from center). Corrositions issues? Weaponload pointes reinforcements? etc. etc.

    They could perfectly buy french made Rafales also… The long part of the process is to organize ToT and local supply chain.

    In the short-term more Flankers would seem like the best choice. Also, like I said in an earlier posting. Maybe India could forgo the Rafale altogether and instead focus on the PAK-FA and increase the buy of the latter?

    Scooter, the M in MMRCA is for Medium…

    Ok so what kind of technology transferred happened in SU-30 or Hawk Trainer. incase of Hawk Trainer licensing should have helped in building basic and intermediate trainer. Key advantage of Yak-130 is easy to fly. so no need of basic and intermediate trainers.
