    Update:
SELEX Galileo Receives $9.2 Million Radar Contract Wednesday, March 25, 2009 | SELEX Galileo

    ——————————————————————————–

SELEX Galileo is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $9.2 million contract from TKC Aerospace, Inc. to upgrade the Customs and Border Protection C-550 Citation Tracker Aircraft with its Vixen 500E intercept radar and associated mission management system. This contract is for the first two radars and mission management systems, with options for additional systems to upgrade the remainder of the fleet.

This success represents a further step into the U.S. market for the SELEX Galileo E-Scan technology, following last year $32 million contract extension for the next phase of the supply of the Seaspray 7500 E to the US Coast Guard for its HC-130 H fleet.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operates interceptor aircraft to detect, deter and mitigate threats to the United States homeland such as terrorists, acts of terrorism, drug smuggling and other unlawful movement of people, money, and goods across U.S. borders.

According to Patrick Geraghty, Executive Vice President Radar Systems for SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems US Inc, said, “This upgrade program will not only improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the C-550 Citation fleet, but it will lower life cycle support costs, primarily due to the order-of-magnitude improvement in system reliability compared with equivalent conventional radars.

This contract confirms E-scan technology as a mission critical asset in highly demanding, long endurance, surveillance and intercept missions.”

    Is this the right thread?

I was surprised india did not take the offer for manufacturing a stripped down JSF. This was I believe an offer made by the US. I thought the jsf would be a smarter move. Poor Rafale, still waiting to score a first sale. Will be yesterdays tech delivered tomorrow.

The french have also been known not delivering on promised tech transfer. Brazilians not too happy with the sub deal.

You did not invent this stupid sentence… But i guess yesterday tech is why people’s daily so much shouted after the deal :highly_amused:

    Thank you poster halloweene!

On this one i think A&C are getting a little over their heads (!?!), at least when it comes to the GaAN-based new aerials for SPECTRA, i personally have had many clues of this development trough DGA own public documentation, posted them in diverse forums from years ago (at least 5 years in some) i even mentioned it recently in another K-P topic to mention advanced in development field of the programme.

In any case, looking at the R&D only from a decade ago, it was more than predictable; for many reasons, first the systems targeted by further future upgrades were all passive bar the radar; then we saw the results of the R&D and EAP starting to show up, with DDM-NG, and that even predates the AESA.

System-wise, the future of Rafale is bright, i think the Indian MoD spotted this fact and also the advantages of the new capabilities these upgrades will bring together.

I know you lready posted about PEA INCAS :applause:. I think they will also talk more about THEO and DARTAGNAN, maybe some other stuff?

DGA to disclse several studies at PAS including INCAS (new spectra) and TRAGEDAC (networking passive sensors data inside a patrol)

    Google translate :

Probably aware that the export of the Rafale is now a top priority to ensure the survival of the program, the DGA will present several preliminary studies programs (EAP) to evolve the French fighter aircraft and previously conducted in a very confidential.

This is the case of PEA Incas, which should lead to next year’s first tests of a new antenna tamper Spectra system based on gallium nitride, but the PEA Tragedac aimed at improving passive detection capabilities of the Rafale. The idea is to increase the accuracy of locating an enemy using non-emissive methods (Spectra frontal sector optronics) and sharing information gathered in a patrol, for example via link 16.

I’m in no way meaning F35 will be a crap airplane. Just it’s expectable that Korea will chose US stuff.

    To add some clarification:
Radar 1 is the initial base which will evolve hardware and software wise and is being offered for export customers and the core nations, there are some evolutionary steps planned for radar 1, before the step towards radar 2 will be made which will introduce additional/new hardware and software in a phased approach. The new hardware is meant to be designed to be backwards compatible with earlier iterations of the radar. Radar 3 might be a UK only designation which may include some UK specific software changes. For early delivery to export customers an early version of the radar 1 will be offered dubbed the Entry Into Service variant (EIS). This variant can be easily upgraded to the next radar 1 standard dubbed Operational Test & Evaluation (OTE) which is likely to be used for an early assessment on behalf of the core customers. This will be followed by the IOC variant, followed by the EOC variant.

    I stand corrected.

LOL …Sorry but this is how NOT to do things cost-effectively.

Lit up a candle i’m gonna defend eurofighter 😉

i think main diffs between Captor E versions are software blocks.

This is not consistent with the swiss air force findings, which is the only official document that we have on the subject.

I’m afraid, the same thing may happen that happened to Rafale previously. And i’m aware of WZ ;)))
I have the same about ATLC btw, but not disclosable 😉 (and joint warrior and St Dizier fights).
Only things i’ll say : Captor M better the RBE2 PESA, but Spectra very good at fooling it. Seems to have been really fruitful exercise for both sides.
And NO, F-22 is prolly best fighter atm but not unbeatable.
