In an attemp to keep informal, AK ANthony recently stated that negociations should be done in july, final signature in Sept. Oct. DDlightning, i wish you spoke french, go to air-defense, topic Eurofighter. You would see that Tmor views are fairly balanced and he regularly points to Typhoon qualities.

I agree. And btw during debriefing Raptor pilot wasnt stressed. Only intended to debunk “F22 absolute invicibility in dogfight”. I guess there were also several victories vs Rafale or Typhoon etc. No real point apart…

i do agree with you, aswell as raptors will have victories vs rafale, typhoon, and the reverse. In a way its good news (for us so called fanboys)! Aim still have a huge end towards mica in terms of range But i still like mica bvr ir capability. all in all what i see last months is everyone accepting capabilities of thes fighters. And thats def good news vs trolls 😉

Already been investigated by most of the parties concerned, i think the meteor approach is the best for a permanent long term solution as far as propulsion is concerned. I expect the US to eventually go for a ramjet powered future Next generation missile with the T-3 having actual flight and air tests of 2 designs (Ramjet powered BVR weapon) propulsion systems in the next few months. That is the best bet to significantly increase burn time and effective NEZ…In the meanwhile, the seekers need to get better and better, the data links get more advanced and you can have a dual seeker for a multi use weapon that can be used as an A2A BVR or WVR weapon, an anti radiation A2G weapon, as well as a A2G weapon for critical targeting and strike…would really increase the combat ability of any tactical fighting force..

Agree, but do not forget mica ng is aimed to be a mlu. Btw, talked to pilots from gascogne and provence squadrons recently, and they did assume they had victories vs F22 in BFM in ATLC. Notice i said in BFM

Talked with Gascogne and Provence pilots durin La Ferte ALais meeting. THERE WERE F22 kills during ATLC.

If im not mistaken the Python 5 has a very long sustainer phase (not with enough thrust to sustain mach 4 but enough to keep it supersonic and aid in maneuvering).

To get the fantasy kills in the distance you either need ramjet or dual boost engine, preferrably you have a booster that gets droped after burnout and use a very long sustained boost time. (meteor for instance has a pretty large booster that kicks in before the ramjet)

It all boils down to physics. Can you fit enough stored energy in the missile without it growing to K100 in size? I sincerely hope the Mica NG gets the best of all worlds.

I think we shouldn’t speculate too much on that part. The missile will have higher lift per wing area as long as the speed is high enough but the wings also offer 1/5th-1/15th of a fighter jets wing loading. So the first part for the missile will be negligeable, it will turn, but no jet will be at risc of being out maneuvered.

And this takes my argument back to page one. Burn time of the missile is key to determine high Pk.

AFAIK the idea isnt to have a longer burn, but a second booster that will burn in terminal phase.

Reading last posts, i guess that the present studies on MICA NG with dual boost engine are relevant.

Which is why you cannot depend on the B-2 as your only VLO asset. With dense targets like an airbase, range extension kits, and basic glide range of the JDAM you will see times where a singele (or few) B-2 will do the jopb much better and cheaper than 8+ F-117s, F-22s, or F-35s.

To this point, both B-2s and F-117s were used in 2003.

exactly the point where you may also like to have some Rafales with AASM and Scalp on your side to complete the picture ;))))

    Hello,
nothing new to see. The leftiest parties here in Italy have been pushing for years for the cancellation of the partnership. The F-35 debate in Italy is huge, both between aviation enthusiast and other people.

There could be further cuts or more possibly delays in the acquisition program (BTW many observers don’t support at all the choice of the AMI to buy 15 F-35B, a choice maybe aimed to undermine the Navy aviation).

Nevertheless for the moment the opposition call has no impact. The debate is open on the money that “will be coming in from the FACO” as Spudman wrote, money that most probably will not be so big vs. the expensive investment in the FACO.

Israel, a non partner nation, secured offsets in the constructions of wings, a contract that will undermine the manufacturing prospects for the FACO in in Italy, 2nd level partner for the program.

We could see any future changes for the acquisition program by Italy, but really the opposition call was the obviousest rhetorical try to dismount any military expenses, pretending that the F-35 is the only A/C able to deliver the B-61 nukes, and therefore is an evil instument of mass destruction.

Just a “for fun” question, isn’t there a european fighter able to deliver nukes?
