ROME — Italian opposition parties and some lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party called on the government on Thursday to abandon its plans to buy 90 Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets.

Anyone think Italy will abandon F-35?

I dont think so. Too many industrial repercussions. And all in all F35 isnt a bad plane.

The mathematics of burn-through are well documented. While it is true that the jamming signal gets stronger as you approach the target, so does the radar signal received by the missile. The issue is that the jamming signal gains power in a straight line while the radar gains power with the square of the distance.

Modern EW suites are a bit more intelligent then that. Apart from that, thank you for this discussion folks. Interesting.

I would buy tons of Rafales, so as UK would have to buy tons more of Typhoons :eagerness:

The Mirage 2000 inlet is variable, as the shock cones move.

Well, not Mirage 2000D (obviously no t the best mach performer :highly_amused:). But Rafale is fixed (fixed diverter plate)

    Guys,

    to set things straight:

A DSI intake was tested by LockMart on an F-16. It was a testbed for the F-35, that has DSI intakes.
DSI has 2 advantages that I can see from the top of my head:
For a stealthy airplane like the F-35, it means a simple, affordable way to avoid a radar return as it disposes with moving parts (remember that this was the original goal of the JSF: cheap)
For a non stealthy airplane like the JF-17, it means doing away with the complexity of a movable intake, so, the availability of a Mach 1+ airplane at lower maintenance costs, and less needs for highly qualified personnel.

So, could we now stop with that fetish ? Yes, it is quite unique feature on combat aircraft at this time, no it will not change the world, or make it a batter aircraft. Just cheaper to operate.
Sorry for those here who think that they should boast for every move their country makes. This forum isn’t a warzone. Here is a place where you can discuss and learn from each other. If you come with another intention, it might not end well.

No need to report posts because facts are put forward, this isn’t trolling.
May I also point out that abusing the post report system might also earn a ban ?

Btw there are fixed intakes allowing supersonic speed without DSI…

first , the EF-2000 in comparison using an AESA radar so i dont think it really old , and here where i got my infor about RCS , as they stated missiles and vertical tail are main contributor for RCS
    http://www.orkut.com/Main#CommMsgs?t…58541394&hl=en

Not to enter another endless debate, but about your source… I talked last WE with 3 piltts from “Gascogne” and “Provence” squads. They clearly stated that Rafale RCS was significantly lower then EF 2000 (which contradicts your source). Vertical tail prob is mainly the corner effect with wings… if you have a 90° angle.
