that’s a surprise… didn’t the polish MiG29s supposedly fare quite well vs their F16Blck52s?
Blk 30+ didnt show very good results vs Eurocanards in BFM… So heavier Blk 50/52….
Another Installment of … F-35 Cost Per Flying Hour
Posted by Amy Butler 11:35 AM on Apr 24, 2013
The plot thickens on the F-35 cost-per-flying-hour discussion.
Pentagon acquisition chief Frank Kendall says the cost-per-flying-hour figure for the F-35A recently provided by the stealthy fighter’s program executive officer to The Netherlands is more aggressive than the official figure that will go next month to Congress.
USAF Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan told Dutch lawmakers that the flying hour cost for the F-35A would be about 10% higher than the F-16, a sharp reduction from earlier assessments.
“It is with a certain set of assumptions,” Kendall told reporters during a roundtable April 24 at the Pentagon, that Bogdan arrived at that figure. “I’m not sure we want to use that set of assumptions.”

Anyone noticed this deal is for about 5 billion dollars? For 25 F16 only? Doubtful.
Dont worry, late clients will get better price.
Neither sounds optimum.
It’s called a Ski jump.
My bad, i’m not english born.
I agree, this is becoming increasingly likely and massively improves the flexibility of the carriers going forward.
I wonder how much operating off of a carrier will change the design criteria. Indeed, carrier operations is something the British and French should find quite easy to work together on (because no other main ally outside of the US will be interested in coming onboard – so to speak).
Also agree, a pity we couldn’t find a “proper” way to cooperate (well pity…, except for our US allies). @kev 99, you prefer a huge carrier only able to carry coastal stealthy operations due to skyjump and non buddy to buddy capabilities, or a smaller carrier that will deply deep strike capabilities?
I would prefer that britain and france built something that was a world beater and of strategic importance to their defence sectors. Will that happen? Most think not. I also question the sharing of LO technology some of which could be unique to either country. So perhaps that is clearer?
Sadly i agree, hard to imagine Dassault and BAE sharing work… And yes it is way clearer, my apologizes if i was a bit harsh.
One example:
Ok. But in your example, the plane was intended to replace M2k…Btw take a look at Washington Post, clearly a political move vs Iran…
That seems harsh. I couldn’t post appropriate roll eyes smiley because I was on my phone…. 🙁
You’d prefer Neuron wont lead to anything due to Brit inerference? As hmmm… limited sentence?
I see everyone is playing this cool, well fine. Taranis is about the same size as a hawk so its only subscale in the sense that it might lead to something bigger.
It should also be noted that this is the public culmination of decades of ucav development undertaken by BAE.
But ofcourse it won’t lead too anything because its, British, unmanned and prone too French interference right….
Do me a favour, quit nationalistic babblings, thx
Why in gods name would they contemplate F-18SH if it cost more to operate than F-35 ?
Bang on the button Kyle
