INS precision can be awesome (few centimeters after hours of flight). GPS can be hacked thats why new chips are used. Modern planes can use “memorized” 3d maps. Glonass and Galileo. etc.

Bring it on, sorry, but i’m a bit confused. To mention the beginning of your post, SEAD/DEAD missions will be lead by cruise missiles. Air defence missions by AEGIS like systems… So plz tell me what is the use of F35? Any F18 could do the rest no? (of course i know i’m exagerating)

no, IKEA jokes is made on swedish innovation and industry. Often to make it look simplistic, and a bad idea.
Due to people in common can only pinpoint one big swedish corporation and there innovation.
I have seen it alot in the international arena.

    i was kidding sign 🙂

Sign – I can look out of my window every day and see the local flightpath. And it often occurs to me that if anyone had said, when I started in this business, that half the jets in the stream would be made in Brazil in XX years’ time, they would have been led away and sedated.

So making IKEA jokes doesn’t mean that I don’t think it might happen.

I thought Ikea jokes were for Ueli Maurer only ? :p

It would be very surprising if the USN starts so shift F-35 money into SH development!

Has there been any discussions of adding CFTs to the F-35C?

It sound counterproductive, but perhaps could offer a solution to what seems to be an inadequate range?

Will the F-35 be able to do buddy refueling?

    no afaik

    1) flares is useless against almost every WVR missiles at the moment ( Aim-9X , ASRAAM , ..etc ) that why they plan to put DIRCM on F-35 ( no other gen 4 , 4.5 fighter jet have that )

True, but i guess planned somewhere as DDM-NG is stated as DIRCM compliant on Rafale.

We are talking a 2 AMRAAM + 2 AIM-9X configuration, no drop tanks.

And the survivors keep charging on.

When it’s in WVR range, it’s a F-16 vs F-4(F-35’s agility is comparable to an F-4) fight. Guess who wins.

The F-16’s combat strategy is to make a supersonic dash toward the F-35 guided by AWACS(Yes, AWACS’s L-band radars can see F-35s from hundreds of km away), then launch its missiles.

CUDA is an unfunded Lockheed Martin concept. Unless Lockheed Martin plans to develop and product CUDA with its own money, you need not mention it.

    Simulations disagree.

Tho i agree on many points, unnamed source isnt reliable… (aswell as named ones often 🙂 )

1-F-16 not faster or turn better with weapon on pylon
2- F-16 will be killed BVR
3- even if it come close with HOBS missiles ( aim-132 , CUDA , aim-120 ..etc ) and DAS , the chance of both side will be pretty equal
4- the only chance for F-16 is if F-35 run out of missiles , but with the new missiles ( CUDA ) it will take pretty long ( internally 1 F-35 can have 3 Meteor for BVR + 4 CUDA for WVR )

LoL , su-35 have nothing to kill f-35 , it will be shot down from BVR before pilot even know anything , and even if it can come close then HOBS missiles , JHMCS , DAS will do the work (WVR missiles today simply to agile compared to aircraft )
not even the T-50 can be F-35 killer;) let alone Su-35 or what ever chinese aircrafts

But whats the harm in sending a reply to an RFI? They could always choose to pull out if they see that the key points of the evaluation are twisted to favour the F-35..as I’d guess even EADS would with the Typhoon. But why would they prejudice themselves without having seen the contents of the evaluation criteria?

Regarding the AIM-120, does Denmark plan on using its old stocks of AIM-120s on the new fleet they plan to buy? They acquired 200 AIM-120Bs between 1997 to 1999, so they’re already 14-15 years old, which would mean that they’d run out of life in another 5-10 years? So its pretty clear that they’d need to purchase new BVR weapons for their new jet fleet, whenver it enters service.

Why would they hinge a new jet purchase on just one particular weapon?

I do not know Archer, i was only quoting specialized press. And Dassault didnt bore answering to japanese and second Korean RFIs forthe very same reasons.

According to Air & Cosmos website, Dassault do not want to go into competition if they feel it twisted (as in japan for ex).
Btw, Rafale is fully stanag compliant , several GBU are integrated, and meteor is a NATO weapon (if not US)…
Although i agree integretaion of AIM120 etc. should be costly.
