Dassault just bugged out of the RCAF competition.

µIn fact, not Dassault but french Gov (DGA) due to 2/5eyes agreements and MDFs confidentiality.

In the meanwhile, next gen mica is officially launched. Deliveries 2026. New IR matrix, AESA, longer range, dual boost.

@black Archer, first Indian Rafale, RB008 is already flying after a one month delay (it was scheduled in septembre) RB is for Rafale Bharat.

If the SCAF is meant to be a 6th gen type intended to compete with the US PCA effort they’ll need to spend some serious money to make some big leaps.

Don’t think only in terms of dollar, France is not the USA.

And perhaps they were not expecting to pay that much as compared to US.
About the program, my argumentation was not as flawed as that. Many features defined for JORD were nerds dreams, things you’ll have only one occasion in your life. Green glow is an example. After looking to a certain night landing on WASP during tests, one cannot say it is not mandatory to eliminate it. And the only tech they found was not predictible at the time. Ergo bad programmation. And luck. (Dunno what they will do about Thales breached patent, stop trying to block Rafale exports?). How many assets are able to join presently a MADL network? 4? How many were expected for 3F? Many capacities scheduled for 3F were put off further block using an event led management instead of capability led. Calculator not powerful enough etc. etc.REsult? lowering prices for present block, but operating costs will rise like hell in order to have a really operational plane (block4).

What about wrong costs given to NL? https://www.levif.be/actualite/belgi…l-1048007.html

“important number of errors”. How surprising…

Lockheed Martin is being awarded with a contract modification in support of the F-35 Block 4 pre-modernization Phase II effort. Priced at $130.4 million the modification external link provides for requirements decomposition and design work that sees for the maturation of the aircraft’s weapon capabilities. Block 4 is part of the F-35 JPO’s Continuous Capability Development and Delivery or C2D2 external link effort that seeks to keep the fighter jet relevant against emerging, dynamic threats by quickly fielding incremental updates to the jet’s software, much like regularly updating one’s smartphone. The Block 4 update program will allow the aircraft to finally meet its full contractual specifications. The whole Block 4 update program is expected to cost $10.8 billion through FY2024. The contract combines purchases for the Air Force ($17.4 million), the Navy ($14.2 million), Marine Corps ($14.2 million) and for relevant international partners ($84.3 million). Work will be performed at Lockheed’s facility in Fort Worth, Texas and is expected to be completed in March 2020.

After the wrong numbers about F-35 costs given to NL, seems that international partners pay a lot more than their share in program for modernization, no?

Dassault will not compete in Canada due to encryption issues with five eyes countries.

Not yet. Trying. Nothing will come from Dassault for obvious reasons.

Better fix potential issues now. France had troubles with Germany not respecting Debré/ Scmidt 1971 deal.

TBH i think more than that. We know now that OLED technology is NEEDED for the helmet. There was no way to know early 2000’s that these would be TRL9 presently (first scientific publications date end 90ies…). That is just an example.

Once again, the problem is not flemish vs walloon as some would like. According to polls there is more opposition to F-35 purchase (including pacifists no fighter at all views) in norht flemish than i n south (about 65% vs 55% opposed as far as i remember)
