BM597 flew back to Duxford at about 15:25 today, currently parked up at the eastern end near the ARC/HF hangar and looks very smart – nice to see a Spitfire in a different scheme.
Just seen what I think is TD248 displaying over Duxford. From a distance the scheme looks similar to TFC’s Mk14 Spitfire.
The WWII formation wasn’t quite up to Legends Balbo standards, but the 2 B-17’s and 2 B-25’s in formation where impressive, let’s hope they do that at Legends (the B-17’s have never flown in formation at Legends).
Various a/c have turned up today, the contra-prop Spitfire was impressive when it went up to display this afternoon, and the close formation flying from Princess Elizabeth and Twilight Tear was very tight. The SAAB B-17 is quite aerobatic and put on a good show, if the pilot puts on the same show at the weekend it looks like the better photos will be taken down at the Land Warfare Hall end of the airfield (I was watching it from home and seemed to be lower and closer at that end…)
I also saw the French Skyraider turn up after I got home. I’ll post some pictures later if I get time, no doubt there be plenty of other people posting photos too!
Apparently, the flypast practice has now been moved to 1pm
I don’t know who was up in the P-40, but it looked like Steve Hinton in the P-39.
Some photos from Thursday afternoon…
It’s been a busy afternoon at DX today, the weather cleared mid-afternoon, too late for the flypast practice today, it felt like the Friday before Legends today…
The SAAB B-17 is here, there’s been a few aircraft flying (TFC’s P-40, Swiss B-17, Dakota, the Polikarpov, Catalina). TFC’s P-39 taxied out, but stopped, shut down and then started up and taxied back (it looked to me like it was leaking something out of the starboard wing?). Twilight Tear was pulled out of the hangar just before I left.
I might post some photos later if I have time.
Must be – I just saw Darren’s post mentioning Pink Lady in the flypast.
I’ve also heard that the SHF’s A-26 Invader has suffered an engine failure (landed ok), so I guess that won’t be at Legends.
There was something vaguely vintage and twin-engined that turned up earlier, not sure what it was but it was similar-ish (a very big ish!) to a Dakota.
With Pink Lady here early, is there a bad weather forecast for the next couple of days? Some foreign participants have arrived early before for that reason.
I believe it’s this one, hasn’t been seen at Legends for a while.

Thanks for the heads up, the NOTAMs show that the practice is happening both tomorrow and Friday:

The Catalina arrived back at Duxford sometime between 6pm and 7pm yesterday evening, certainly looks good in it’s new paint scheme.
As I drove past at lunchtime it looked like the Hawk was out on the grass, but it’s back in the hangar now…
It’s been back at Duxford displaying, for the press I believe.
Fly Vintage the sequel
Well, as promised, I have started updating Fly Vintage again (along with revamping it…). Also, please take a look at a new site of mine Air Days.
Suggestions/bug reports/ideas are welcome 🙂
Cheers, Ben
