Are Ju52’s blocked with the same rules at Dakotas?

Dunno – if they aren’t maybe Air Atlantique should buy a couple ?

Lufthansa were doing a roaring trade around Cologne Cathedral – as I ran round it in the rain!

Not this Roger Gordon? We didn’t meet until mid-1967. 🙂

    Let’s dispel a few myths
G-AMYC Pod & boom was stored in LcMarmol hangar on Stapleford western boundary(clearly visible) until burnt 26Nov68.

I remember it there – covered in dust – on my first visit to Stapleford in February 1967 – remember that trip in an old maroon “Dormobile” Roger? What was the i/d of the Airspeed Horsa fuselage & cockpit in external store at that time and where did they end up?

Funny to think I learned to fly there ten years later. 🙂

D.H.89A Dragon Rapide, Elmdon (Birmingham), mid 1950s on my Mum’s lap. Don’t know the reg but I believe it crashed near Berkeswell, Warwickshire, a year or two later.

Rarest type I’ve ever flown in – Robinson Redwing G-ABNX with John Pothecary at Lydd 🙂

    Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th Oct

Junkers Ju52/3m bumbling around over Cologne the whole weekend … well not when it was pouring with rain on Sunday and I was getting very wet running the Cologne Marathon … but as soon as the weather dried out “Tante Ju” was up & about again.

How do Lufthansa fly passengers in her and Air Atlantique can’t fly DC-3’s

anybody know if G-ANPP is still with us? Registered to a couple in Thaxted in 1977 but I don’t know if it still exists.

Ah, they’ve moved the Spitfire (hope they didn’t drop it :diablo:) – I visited in 2002 and it was still with the Ju 87 over the escalators and could only get “from under” photos.

    Roger Smith.

ps – can’t help with your memories of Wattisham

    Hi Roger

Yes – the Transportation Gallery has been redesigned – here’s a shot I took on 3rd September this year which gives a rough idea of the new layout – the Spitfire is now level with and behind the Stuka … with a Boeing 727 alongside both of them!

and another showing the Spitfire from the port rear elevation

    Bf109’s and Spitfires

I took this photo of “the other” BF109 – the “E” now at Hendon – at Chivenor on 22 August 1969. It was fitted with the later hood at the time.

If your memories are from 1964 then the Spitfire would have been SM411 – now in Poland – EP120 and BL614 didn’t get to Wattisham until after they were used in The Battle of Britain film in 1968.

    Here’s EP120 at Wattisham in 1984

and here’s BL614 during filming at North Weald in May 1968 (Graham Trant photo)

I’ve always found it rather odd that seemingly large numbers of Hurricanes have been recovered from the former USSR but only a paltry number of Spitfires. Considering that large numbers of Spitfires were shipped to the Soviets I wonder where they all ended up … underground storage hangars?

Maybe we should look to the US Navy for an example of how to handle an old warship?

And this one is still seaworthy!

According to the IMDb website and the film’s own site, the locations used were the disused Hradcany Airport in the Czech Republic and Fowlmere in the UK.

My first guess was the latter location for the pic, but surely Fowlmere’s hangar is in far better condition than that??

I think we can assume its the Czech location:
